Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) Benefits program is designed to assist Wounded Warriors navigate the Department of Veteran’s Affairs as they file claims for injuries sustained while serving on active duty. Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) regional benefits director oversees the day-to-day operations of the warrior benefit services team for a specified region. The regional director will manage their assigned region through hiring, development of personnel, overseeing and aligning regional performance, as well as managing the budget for the region.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Serve as liaison and provide legal representation for warriors on veteran benefits
  • Receive and direct all benefit inquiries, requests, and leads
  • Manage, train, guide, and counsel remote staff of Benefit Liaisons
  • Track, review, and report on progression and outcome of benefit leads, utilizing WWP tracking tool
  • Oversee development and implementation of training programs, as needed, based on outcome of benefit leads
  • Meet established goals for timeliness and successful completion of claims
  • Educate veteran population across the regional area on available benefits and services provided
  • Provide ongoing communication, counseling, and education to constituencies
  • Build partnerships and maintain ongoing communication with benefit and legislative arms of local and national VA to include other benefit resources in the community and Veterans Service Organizations
  • Provide ongoing training and education to staff to ensure accreditation is maintained
  • Manage budget for specified region and approve all departmental expenses
  • Manage various projects within region or across WWP
  • Represent WWP through public presentations at third party events in support of WWP or other opportunities to educate veterans
  • Stay abreast of current trends, discoveries, and medical conditions pertaining to wounded warriors
  • Other related duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required. A minimum of six (6) years relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree

  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals in leadership and key community roles
  • Proven ability to speak in public and serve as representation for the organization
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain heavy caseload and provide high quality service to warriors
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects in varying complexity
  • Self-starter, willing to take initiative
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; team player, ability to communicate with diverse personalities, tactful, mature, and flexible
  • Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment
  • Proficiency with MS Office

Education & Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of staff management experience required
  • VA benefit experience preferred
