Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) seeks a dynamic and effective Political Research Specialist. This position will work extensively with polling, news sources, legislative and voting records, campaign finance reports, Census information, and other public records to provide politically astute analyses and written summaries of the information. The Political Research Specialist will also track public statements by elected officials and candidates on women’s health issues and create candidate research books. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the maintenance of a trove of research on races from the local to the federal level.
- Assist in developing new systems/mechanisms for enhancing interactions with candidates, and composing backgrounders and political write-ups for interdivisional stakeholders.
- Manages interdivisional collaboration and coordination of all political information - working very closely with Government Relations, Communications and Digital Departments.
- Creates briefings for principals.
- Develops all candidate materials and candidate background materials and tracks public statements by elected officials and candidates on women's health issues.
- Responsible for developing and updating content for the Congressional Scorecard, Mobile Voter Guide and I Vote PP Action website.
- Maintains database of Federal officeholders and candidates for office.
- Watches election results and disseminates live updates to key staff during primary, special and general elections.
- Composes and sends a daily morning political news briefing to key staff Creates briefings, Powerpoints and presentations related to political research.
- Assists with the research of electoral targets.
- Provides staff support to Action Fund and PAC Boards, including preparing materials such as political update.
- Provides all research and some content related to the Action Fund and PAC Board meeting conference calls and in person meetings.
- Assists with communications to affiliates and local Planned Parenthood C4’s.
- Bachelor Degree. Additional related college courses or professional training is a plus.
- 3-5 years in progressively responsible work experience in a non-profit or campaign setting Is required. Ability to work in fast paced environment.
- Must be a very strong writer with a knack for condensing large amounts of information into a concise format.
- Knowledge of advocacy/electoral campaigns, public policy issues and legislative process;
- understanding of reproductive health issues and history of family planning.
- Computer, writing and reporting skills is necessary.
- Familiar with Campaign Finance laws.
- Must be a self-starter and possess strong interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of diverse groups, working with a multicultural workforce, and sensitivity and appreciation to cultural differences is required.
- Natural organizer, who learns and processes quickly, can think on their feet and work with a wide variety of people coming from different backgrounds.
