Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is seeking a strategic, innovative, and experienced Associate Director, Organizing & Training  to shape and lead organizing training, affiliate support and coaching for strategy, and formal leadership development programs for staff and volunteers that will support the power building work the Organizing and Electoral Campaigns department. The  Associate Director will develop and cultivate a culture of organizing through comprehensive training programs for PPFA staff, affiliate staff, and volunteer activists. 
Reporting to the Deputy Organizing Director, this role is responsible for developing and executing a training program for PPFA and affiliates, and for identifying opportunities to include trainings across PPFA/PPAF programs. The Organizing & Training Manager will create and deliver all training curriculums, including online learning tools. The Director is also be responsible for evaluation of professional development programs and conducts needs assessments. They will understand our issues at the intersection of race and class, and can interpret organizing principles across multiple cultural backgrounds. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, along with public affairs and organizing team, overall vision and plan for national base-building and volunteer and ally engagement program for PPFA.
  • Support Public Affairs staff to develop a culture of community organizing, volunteer recruitment, and leadership development at local affiliates.
  • Work closely with public affairs and organizing staff at PPFA and affiliates to integrate organizing training into overall strategy, including: local power analysis, relationship building, and leadership development.  Identity training needs, pitch training programs, and rigorously assess outcomes.
  • Develop training plan, including assessing needs, creating goals, and refining all training tools for a cohesive and strategic training program.
  • Support National trainings including Path to Power Universities and ripple trainings for University participants returning to state-based work.
  • Facilitate coordination of training curricula across the Federation, consulting on training content with other departments including Planned Parenthood Global, communications, Planned Parenthood Experience, and other campaign functions.
  • Develop, evaluate, and revise all training curricula, including specialized curricula to take advantage of unique opportunities.
  • Partner with national, state, and affiliate staff to integrate training into Public Affairs and Organizing programs across PPFA, providing individualized technical assistance and capacity building where needed.
  • Train, evaluate, and mentor all trainers, including development and delivery of “train the trainer” modules.
  • Develop online learning curricula and tools through identifying needs, building strategy, and creating modules including work with digital and communications teams to develop supportive materials for trainees to communicate and coordinate activities.
  • Manage training budget and oversee financials and site logistics, with support from training administrative staff.
  • Manage administrative support and oversee all training logistics and recruitment, to ensure high-quality training experiences for all participants.
  • Create training evaluations and produce quantitative and qualitative reports on training program.
  • Fundraising duties as assigned. 
REQUIREMENTS / TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5-8 years of organizing experience, ideally with a mix of electoral, community, and direct action organizing.
  • Proficiency with computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint Excel, and Publisher and online training tools.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • A record of success in peer-to-peer training work, including direct coaching.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. 
PERSONAL QUALITIES /OTHER ATTRIBUTES
  • Experience working in diverse communities.
  • Familiarity with women’s health issues.
  • Participation in NOI, Midwest Academy, Wellstone or comparable training a plus.
