The media advocacy intern will assist the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network’s (ACS CAN) national media advocacy team with executing internal and external communications activities that support ACS CAN’s national media advocacy work.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Research national media outlets and reporters
- Assist with researching, drafting and copy editing press releases, email pitches, newsletter articles and other internal and external communications materials
- Assist with executing events such as press conferences
- Assist with content inventory, development and maintenance of the organization’s intranet community and materials database
- Provide support to the team’s social and online media efforts
- Monitor online databases for news stories of interest
- Assist with drafting media coverage reports
- Assist with research for annual report, including the development of a readership poll
Educational Background:
Candidates must be at least a college sophomore, preferably with a major in communications/public relations, journalism, public relations, political science or a related field.
Skills/Experience:
Candidates must also have strong oral, written and computer skills, be a team player, handle multiple projects effectively, and have an interest in public policy and/or health care issues.
All Interns Must meet the following requirements:
- Full-time student, If you are an undergraduate student you have completed your freshman year of college;
- Have a minimum of a B average (cumulative 3.0 on 4.0 scale);
- Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester
Additional Information:
An internship assignment may coincide with the student’s last term/trimester, but student must disengage upon graduation.
