Manager, Individual Giving (D.C. Region)

The Manager of Individual Giving will help lead critical elements of three major individual giving campaigns as an essential member of the D.C. Region’s Growth & Stewardship team, which is responsible for raising more than $20 million in operating revenue over the next four years. You will lead the design and launch of a comprehensive, broad-based giving campaign, and work closely with the Individual Giving team to manage all gala-motivated giving and the growth of our established Sponsor-A-Teacher campaign. Together with the Individual Giving team, you will be responsible for raising a plurality of the region’s annual revenue and developing a diverse and sustainable local funding base to achieve our ambitious fundraising targets and support our mission.  Almost half of your time will be spent on donor strategy and cultivation efforts with the other half spent on the critical data analysis, research, and operation needed to inform strategy, personalized stewardship.

You will report to the Director of Major Gifts.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Portfolio Management, Strategy and Stewardship (45%)

  • Develop and implement an annual broad-based giving campaign targeting donors up to the $5,000 level, especially focused on Teach For America alumni, to achieve revenue goals
  • Develop and implement plans of engagement for potential, new, and existing Sponsor-A-Teacher donors and for the annual gala attendees (sub $10,000)
  • Maintain excellent relationships with a portfolio of individual donors and prospects, including but not limited to gala attendees, Sponsor-A-Teacher sponsors, and broad-based givers
  • Develop and maintain own portfolio of prospects and donors and secure gifts up to $10,000
  • Support donor engagement and strategy for major gift donors through the preparation of accurate, concise and thoughtful meeting briefs
  • Collaborate with team colleagues to plan and execute tailored engagement opportunities, such as classroom visits, professional development observations, and stewardship dinners, and serve as the primary point of contact and support for Teach For America teachers and alumni for these engagements
  • Communicate Teach For America's vision, priorities and goals in a compelling way to individual donors and prospects, including working with the Associate, Communications and Marketing to through draft compelling fundraising communications about Teach For America’s vision, priorities, and goals.

Prospect Research and Data Analysis (25%)

  • Conduct in-depth prospect research and data analyses of potential, new, and existing individual giving donors to inform tailored stewardship approaches and individualized pitches and engagement strategies
  • Analyze historical and market data to inform fundraising goals
  • Compose prospect research briefs and data reports to inform annual and quarterly planning and by regional team, TFA national executives, and D.C. Region board members

Development Operations (20%)

  • Utilize Salesforce database to manage and input data related to individual giving portfolio and donor stewardship touch points, and conduct prospect research
  • Regularly assess team-wide progress to goals, identifying what is driving and impeding progress, developing solutions to address gaps, and adjusting course as necessary
  • Maintain meticulous records of donor engagement
  • Ensure timely processing and prompt acknowledgement of donations secured

Regional Team Responsibilities (10%)

  • Support, attend, and/or participate in all regional and Growth & Stewardship team activities, including corps member selection and matriculation, corps member professional development days (approx.5/year), staff meetings, functional team meetings and retreats, and regional orientation (one week in June)
  • Attend and actively engage in professional development learning opportunities
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 

Prior Experience 

  • At a minimum, 2-4 years of professional experience, including 1-2 years of experience in development or fundraising. 

Work Demands 

  • Some weekend and evening work required. Limited travel (1-2 times per year) possible.
