Director of Knowledge Management

This anticipated brand-new Knowledge Management (KM) team will develop and oversee a comprehensive KM approach which will accelerate organizational learning across the world towards achieving our strategic plan (SP) objectives. Its mandate is to establish an active learning culture based on relevant knowledge content and new staff behaviors to ultimately increase operational efficiency across PSI. Siloed systems will need to be integrated within our enterprise wide ecosystem including Office 365, DHIS2 and Degreed.

  • The design, delivery and management of a standardized KM approach (including processes, tools and incentives) that operates within and between network members and global services.
  • The creation, curation and exchange of information to make it easier for people to do their jobs. A successful KM function will improve organizational learning, disciplined use of standard operating procedures, compliance, accountability and connectedness across the PSI network.
  • The design and delivery of customer focused training to ensure staff can, and want, to use the KM system to provide, and access, the right information at the right time and in the right format to improve their work experience and the efficiency, quality and consistency of PSI's performance
  • Facilitate the routine packaging and dissemination of learning derived from PSI’s programmatic and evidence activities to shape market systems, shift policy and funding and strengthen global capacity to deliver improved consumer empowered health care.
  • Promote and enable an active learning culture to ensure that strategic learning is rapidly promoted throughout the organization, and use to influence external communities of practice towards improved policy practice and funding in line with SP objectives.

To achieve this vision, we are looking for a Director of Knowledge Management to spearhead PSI’s efforts to ensure knowledge is systematically reused in order to foster technical and operational excellence across PSI for maximum impact on global health.  This position is contingent upon funding.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Set the Path

  • Develop and promote an organization wide vision for KM and create a movement for change within PSI
  • Develop and oversee execution of a comprehensive operational plan to achieve KM vision based on a human centered design approach that meets customer needs across the network, and is consistent with international best practices
  • Lead corporate efforts to ensure that PSI packages its learning from strategically important activities in the field and shares that learning across the organization
  • Ensure that PSI’s thought leaders can easily access strategic learning to influence relevant external communities of practice towards consumer empowered healthcare

Take the Lead

  • Partner with the Technical Integration Department to ensure seamless technology integration and design a new knowledge architecture or custom application for PSI’s global KM work based on an in-depth situation analysis
  • Design trainings for relevant staff to use new tools, processes and technology effectively
  • Design the KM approach with the latest innovative ideas on learning, KM, and information sharing

Strengthen the Network

  • Address PSI's global network gaps in knowledge capture and sharing, mitigating corporate risk and enhancing the value proposition of the PSI network
  • Partner with PSI country leaders to be aware of, and engage on, corporate-wide learning, knowledge and thought leadership, and to defend and promote PSI's KM approach work in their countries and globally.
  • Design relevant architecture and custom application that provides learning bridges between programs, between the field and HQ and between HQ departments, so that consistent messaging is amplified and reinforced at national and global levels.

 Engaging Externally

  • Help position PSI externally as a thought leader in relevant strategic health areas identified under the Strategic Plan
  • Develop learning and KM as a competitive advantage in collaboration with external facing departments

 Nurture Continuous Learning, Innovation and Knowledge Management

  • Promote a learning corporate culture including rewards for early adopters and super users and introduce employee performance goals related to KM.
  • Stay connected with the larger international KM community and introduce the latest best practices to make, and keep, PSI best in class.

Teamwork

  • The KM Dir will oversee a small team and report to the Chief Evidence Officer within the Chief Strategy and Resources Office/Cone (CSRO) and in Headquarters will work closely with Technical Integration, Strategy and Resources, Operations, Health Technical Teams, Marketing, Evidence, External Relations and Communications and People functions. In the field the KM Dir will work with over 40 network members across the globe.
Educational Background: 
Relevant post-graduate degree (MBA, MIA, MA, MS, etc.)
Skills/Experience: 
  • 10 or more years of experience in creating, managing, delivering and evaluating learning and KM at corporate level.
  • Proven leadership in learning strategy and systems, KM approaches and technology, and preferably, in design thinking, training, e-learning, social learning/media, large-scale change management initiatives, corporate universities, collaboration and partnering.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale projects in support of organizational change efforts including launching and scaling-up global strategies and change management, learning, or KM
  • Proven experience in scoping, developing, project managing, launching and updating custom applications for KM
  • Proven experience in optimizing personalized search and content recommendation for global users working in multiple languages
  • Ability to implement adult learning principles and effective instructional design techniques in product development and delivery
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated experience in project management and work breakdown plan development; experience coordinating multiple, concurrent projects, with ability to manage expectations effectively across competing priorities; adept at identifying, quantifying and managing risk to project delivery; and the ability to solve complex problems with a sense of urgency while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail
  • Results-oriented self-starter who can quickly learn and apply new knowledge in a fast-paced environment and quickly become the resident expert
  • Motivated to research and experiment with emerging instructional methodologies and technologies
  • Comfortable navigating a global network to achieve objectives
