Habitat for Humanity International is currently seeking a passionate leader to join our Government Relations & Advocacy team as the Director of Global Affairs and Advocacy.
Reporting to the Vice President - Government Relations & Advocacy, the Director of Global Affairs & Advocacy will provide both direct public policy/advocacy support for the Habitat For Humanity (HFH) global network towards US international development institutions (USAID, MCC, OPIC, State Dept) and global institutions (especially UN-Habitat and the broader United Nations systems), as well as provide significant advocacy capacity building support to Habitat for Humanity National Offices around the world, primarily by managing key elements of HFHI's global campaign. Additionally,the position will play a critical role in the development and implementation of HFHI's global public policy agenda through writing and/or managing the writing by experts of public policy positions statements, reports and related case studies from around the world. This position will be located in HFHI's office in Washington, D.C. and require approximately up to 15% travel both domestic & international.
- Play a strategic role in the development, launch and implementation of Habitat's global advocacy campaigns and lead U.S. government relations efforts and other key aspects of the global campaigns, giving special focus to global government relations aspects and strategic grant investments of the campaigns
- Direct the overall monitoring, analyzing and influence over U.S. global development policy
- Direct Government Relations & Advocacy's overall global public policy positioning through writing position papers, reports and case studies and/or organizing the writing of position papers and case studies by outside experts
- Supervise and manage staff and interns
- 5 years work experience in Congressional Relations, Government Relations or Public Policy
- Very strong written and oral communications skills
- Experience with global development and/or housing issues
- Experience working with government organizations and/or non-profits/international NGOs
- Experience working on international development public policy and advocacy issues
- Fluent in Spanish preferred
- Lobbying experience preferred
- Working on Capitol Hill or in legislative affairs preferred
