Director, Advertising Client Services

Plays a critical role in growing AARP’s digital advertising business by driving revenue generation and delivery across AARP’s digital properties.  Leads the respective teams and is a strategic partner to AARP Media Sales.  Partners effectively with multiple stakeholders to develop and execute new strategies that grow the advertising business.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Leads the respective teams to deliver exceptional pre-sale and post-sale support for Media Sales and AARP’s advertisers.    
  • Provides sales support and customer service through the pre-sale process.  Develops sales proposals in response to RFP and proactive sales opportunities, working with Media Sales and Marketing to develop strategic sales packages that win business.
  • Provides account management support to major advertisers through the post-sale process.  Manages and coordinates all aspects of the process, including securing assets, creative development, trafficking, optimization, delivery management, and analysis/reporting.  Ensures that campaigns are successful and translate into incremental revenue from renewals and upsells. 
  • Builds a strong partnership and drives collaboration with the AARP Media Sales team, working closely together to achieve revenue goals.
  • Serve as a liaison between Digital team and Media Sales, including the development of new opportunities and products and overseeing special projects.
  • Provides thought leadership for the development of innovative new products, including audience extension, new native products, sponsorships, and new mobile products.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex advertiser/campaign issues to successful resolution, balancing the interests of advertisers and AARP.
  • Advocates for Media Sales and advertiser needs and consistently delivers customer service that delights AARP’s clients and drives revenue.
  • Provides feedback on AARP advertiser needs and market insights to the Digital team, driving continued development of an ad product set that drives revenue and is aligned with industry trends.
  • Collaborates with appropriate groups/teams to take industry positions and develop operational policies on issues such like view ability, ad blocking, and fraud.
  • Motivates/mentors a team to high performance and results.
Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree (MBA preferred) and 8+ years of experience in digital advertising. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • An understanding of the industry landscape and a POV for its growth.
  • Hands-on experience in sales planning and account management for multi-million dollar advertising campaigns.
  • Proven success building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Knowledgeable on view ability, native, mobile, video, data, programmatic, and social.
  • Experience with Salesforce and Google Doubleclick product suite
  • Ability to handle pressured situations with clients with calm focus and unwavering customer service.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence and comfort with high-pressure deadlines.
  • Proactive, forward-thinking, creative problem solver, results-oriented.
  • Exceptional client-facing and presentation skills.
  • Strong quantitative/analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel 5-10%.
