The Direct Response Specialist (DRS), as a dual employee, implements, coordinates and analyzes all direct response fundraising activities utilizing direct response giving vehicles (mail and online) to enable AARP and AARP Foundation to support its advocacy/charitable programs throughout the country. Coordinates with AARP and AARP Foundation stakeholders to fully integrate and maximize fundraising throughout the organization.
- Coordinates direct response plans and strategies for the AARP’s Advocacy program/AARP Foundation Charitable program to secure financial gifts, and to ensure financial and dashboard goals are met.
- Manages day-to-day relationships with external vendors to implement multi-channel direct response marketing programs relative to creative development, print production, data needs.
- Coordinates adherence to full direct response campaign production schedules: coordinates production calls and meetings that include both internal and external partners and implement copy and design for test packages.
- Coordinates with internal partners to set up and implement back-end processing (coding, caging and cashiering, fulfillment) relative to direct mail.
- Ensures Legal, Brand, mandatory and overall messaging are correct in all new and repeat artwork.
- Coordinates premium program research, approvals and acquisition with multiple vendors.
- Process program reporting documentation.
- Proofread art pdfs and review sign-offs for mail pieces
- Train new team members on all aspects of the production implementation process.
- Collaborates with internal partners throughout the organization to ensure coordinated efforts /campaigns are executed for the benefit of the Association and donor preference, including but not limited to data requests, calendaring, Foundation marketing/communications, Foundation and Advocacy Resources.
- Adhere to all applicable laws and follow ethical standards for charitable giving, as defined by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Positions at this level exercise operational latitude to accomplish assigned work duties and responsibilities. Work assignments directly contribute to the achievement of departmental/team goals and objectives.
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years related experience in direct response fundraising (mail and/or Internet); or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
- Proven track record in managing and implementing large, complex direct mail, Internet, and/or phone-based programs to support advocacy programs. Extreme attention to detail and accuracy required. Experience reviewing/writing fundraising copy and working with vendors to produce fundraising materials. Experience with computer, database, and spreadsheet programs. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with vendors, internal customers, and the general public. Experience in working in a large complex environment.
