Do you know how to get the attention of your peers?  Can you drive an issue on campus, in the classroom or in your social community?  Are you an expert with social media?  If so, you may be interested in building communities, both online and in-person, for one of the largest member-based non-profit organizations in the US.  Join us at AARP as a Community Outreach and Advocacy Intern and help make a difference for older Americans.

Areas of Responsibility: 

As a Community Outreach and Advocacy Intern at AARP, you will be challenged to handle a variety of responsibilities from social media management to event planning to volunteer organization and interaction with our members.  You could also be writing press releases, handling media contacts, and assisting with video productions. You will be assigned critical tasks and get to see your work in action. You will get to:

  • Create a variety of communications for the office, including press releases, presentations, legislative briefings, volunteer outreach messages, and newsletters
  • Manage AARP social media accounts for member and volunteer outreach
  • Plan advocacy, volunteer and member events, including event logistics and promotion
  • Assist with planning and executing video and audio productions
  • Use your creative ideas, communication skills and social media expertise to improve AARP’s reach in the community
Educational Background: 
Are enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed 2 full years of coursework prior to the start of the internship
Skills/Experience: 
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Are proficient with social media and Microsoft Office applications
  • Exhibit strong organizational and, multi-tasking skills
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written AARP will ask you to submit:
