Areas of Responsibility: 

Families USA is looking for a Senior Manager of Health Equity to lead and manage project teams to help develop, advance, and execute on Families USA’s core health equity work.  Central to this role, this person will collaborate with the Senior Director of Health Equity to support the development and achievement of the overarching health equity strategy, with a focus on project oversight, and development of action steps that advance health equity goals, including the elimination of racial and ethnic health disparities.  A critical role of this position is to strengthen FUSA’s inter-organization relationships and solidify our role as a health equity-focused organization, including through management and development of FUSA-led coalitions and strong representation within partner-led coalitions.  To that end, the Senior Manager will operationalize targeted health equity-focused advocacy strategies aimed at influencing policy and be able to generate policy analysis, recommendations, and other communications that will have an impact on a variety of audiences.  In partnership with the Senior Director of Health Equity, this person will work in close collaboration with all departments and teams across the organization to infuse equity across the broader Families USA policy agenda.

 

Main job responsibilities:

  • Support the Senior Director of Health Equity in developing strategic priorities that advance health equity, including ensuring that eliminating racial, ethnic, and other disparities and driving health equity through into the three other focus areas: Health Care Value, Coverage, and Consumer Engagement.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal departments (Communications, Federal Relations, Health Policy and Strategic Partnerships) to maximize opportunities to promote, advocate for, and educate about the importance of equitable health policies and our health equity agenda.
  • Staff project work on health equity, including policy analysis, supporting a major health equity task force, interacting with funders, and managing inter-departmental teams on project deliverables.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Director of Health Equity, engage with a diverse group of stakeholders, at the national and state levels, and in some cases, local groups (including government entities) and coalitions that advocate for health equity, including identifying and implementing opportunities for collaboration.
  • Produce specific content on health equity including issue briefs, columns and articles for media, fact sheets, presentations, blogs, new media, newsletters, etc.
  • Work with the Senior Director of Health Equity and the Strategic Partnerships department to expand Families USA’s partnerships across equity groups, including new segments of stakeholders that reach into the racial justice, civil rights, economic justice, disability, immigration, LGBTQ+ and other advocacy spaces.
  • Serve as a resource to partners on technical assistance and training to national and state community leaders, advocates, and policymakers on health equity policy and advocacy.
  • Work with the Senior Director of Health Equity to ensure that all public messaging reflect an inclusive vision and authentically elevates diverse voices and perspectives.
  • Build on existing relationships with local DC-based organizations to support community leaders focused on eliminating health disparities in the District and deepen Families USA’s community ties.
  • Represent Families USA in coalition meetings, trainings, conferences, and other events.
  • Coordinate with the Health Action team to develop and implement Health Equity focused programming for the Health Action Conference and be a resource to staff on how to matrix health equity in their programming and include diverse voices.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance, through direct supervision or as a project lead, to junior staff and colleagues.
Skills/Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree or higher in public health, public administration, or public policy, related to the development, advocacy for, adoption and implementation of public policy and the promotion of social change. Candidate should have a minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience related to health care, minority health, health disparities, and health equity. Experience and/or academic background preferred in issues of racial justice, reproductive justice, structural inequities, social determinants of health, health care transformation, and intersectionality.  Knowledge and understanding of health equity issues, including as they relate to health care transformation.  Understanding of the root causes of health equity and the social determinants of health and the ability to provide training and technical assistance to various audiences.  Strong project management, organizational and leadership skills to ensure successful project execution, including the utilization of project management software.  Demonstrated ability to have collegial relations – working and managing coalition partners and building consensus.  A passion for social justice and for the mission of Families USA.
