Spark the Journey is a nonprofit organization that provides mentorship and a community of support for young adults to chart their own paths to achieving college and career success. Spark the Journey is continuing Capital Partners for Education’s legacy and is growing into a national community. Today, Spark the Journey supports more than 500 mentees as they enter young adulthood. Spark the Journey’s unique mentorship approach fosters long-lasting relationships between mentors and mentees as young adults choose and pursue the education, career path, or personal goals they want to achieve—with a community of support behind them.  

  

About the Role  

The Recruitment Coordinator is a part of the Recruitment and Admissions team. The Recruitment Coordinator helps Spark achieve its organizational goals of recruiting new participants and volunteers while retaining Spark's current community of diverse, committed volunteer mentors. This person is essential to guiding every potential volunteer and participant through the process from the first moment of learning abut the program to finally being matched. This role also supports the events and opportunities that keep our community motivated and connected to Spark. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Job Duties & Responsibilities  

Mentor & Participant Recruitment (80%): 

  • Supporting Recruitment & Selection logistics 
  • Update virtual recruitment platforms to increase visibility of volunteer opportunities with Spark 
  • Schedule and conduct prospective volunteer mentor interviews  
  • Co-facilitate information sessions to promote volunteer and participant enrollment and to meet organizational goals 
  • Assist the Recruitment Manager with the coordination and execution of all mentor and volunteer events and opportunities for retention and recruitment, including all events for National Mentoring Month in January  
  • Support the matching process for new and current mentor-mentee pairs 
  • Facilitate student-mentor match events in collaboration with the Recruitment Coordinator and other Programs team members  
  • Review and confirm volunteer background checks  
  • Data Management 
  • Input and screen applications in database to identify qualified prospective participants and volunteers 
  • Track volunteers and participants as they move through the recruitment and acceptance process 

Program Support (20%) 

  • Support Spark programming (e.g., Match events, orientation, partner meetings) 
  • Attend external community partner meetings on and off-site 

 

Qualifications  

  • At least one (1) year of experience in recruitment, and at least 1 year working with low-income youth or youth facing barriers to college completion.  
  • Ability to conduct one-on-one interviews and handle sensitive information with empathy, respect, and confidentiality  
  • Ability to support logistics of event management and stay on top of multiple projects; experience with volunteer events is a plus  
  • Proven efficiency in a high volume, repetitive work environment  
  • Ability to facilitate engaging presentations tailored to audiences of varying sizes and make-ups 
  • Ability to build and maintain trust with a variety of stakeholders 
  • Flexibility and adaptability, including a solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving and change 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills 
  • Enthusiasm for team collaboration and team building, including a willingness to pitch in while maintaining the ability to work independently 
  • Commitment to serving Spark’s target population and improving their life trajectories  
  • Ability to attend monthly evenings and weekends events

  • Bachelor's or Associate degree highly preferred  
  • Experience with Salesforce, Microsoft Office and Zoom 
  • Proficiency in collecting and recording data from a variety of sources with accuracy and consistency

Compensation/Benefits: 

More Information 

The position is full-time and is based in Washington DC. We are a hybrid organization, and this role requires travel to the DC office, local partner meetings and events. The start date for this position is early December.

Compensation & Benefits 

The starting salary range for this position is $43,885 - $47,300 annually, depending on skills and experience brought to the role.  

 

To counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, Spark uses a non-negotiable salary system. Our goal is to offer a competitive salary that also meets our equity guidelines. Rather than negotiating, we offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes:  Medical, dental, and vision insurance with Flexible Spending Account options, effective the first day of the month following employment, as well as the following:
