Refugees International (RI), a humanitarian organization which advocates for lifesaving assistance, human rights, and protection for displaced people and refugees, seeks to hire a Development Coordinator.  This position is responsible for providing strategic support of the development team’s comprehensive fundraising efforts to include, but not limited to special and community events, stewardship events, online fundraising campaigns, direct mail and appeals, researching and stewarding grantors, and donor information coordination.

Ideal candidates have experience in fundraising, database management, and event planning.  They also work well with diverse constituents, believe in the mission of Refugees International, know how to develop and execute work plans, and fulfill tasks and complete projects as needed.  This position is based in Washington, DC.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Fundraising Administration

  • Researches and identifies new donor prospects and provides information to foster a comprehensive giving plan for prospects (workplace giving, gift matching, and employee events);
  • Supports online fundraising campaigns including World Refugee Day, Giving Tuesday, Human Rights Day, International Women’s Day, and any other campaigns;
  • Maintains the Raiser’s Edge database, following thorough training, by including pertinent donor biographical information, donor activity, and event attendees as needed.

Donor Engagement

  • Coordinates the tax receipt and gift acknowledgement process to ensure mailing of tax receipts and acknowledgement letters;
  • Works respectfully and collaboratively with fellow staff members, agency leadership, and members of the board of directors;
  • Ensures RI’s donor stewardship standards are being upheld through all communication (written and verbal), stewardship events, and general donor interactions.
    Event Coordination
  • Provides staffing support for large special events, community fundraising events, stewardship events, and other initiatives (which may require occasional work after- hours);
  • Coordinates and manages other events for the program team, the board, and RI;
  • Works closely with the special events manager to grow the community fundraising events program and attends events;
  • Manages and helps train development volunteers and other community volunteers for events.

Event Coordination
 

  • Provides staffing support for large special events, community fundraising events, stewardship events, and other initiatives (which may require occasional work after- hours);
  • Coordinates and manages other events for the program team, the board, and RI;
  • Works closely with the special events manager to grow the community fundraising events program and attends events;
  • Manages and helps train development volunteers and other community volunteers for events.

 Other Duties As Needed

  • Provides administrative support to other team members as necessary;
  • Engages in supporting RI’s organization wide fundraising and strategic efforts.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or bachelor’s degree with some business experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of one to two years of relevant work experience (part-time or full-time);
Compensation/Benefits: 

SALARY RANGE: $50,000-55,000 depending on background and experience.
