The Development Manager is accountable for the performance and success of fundraising events and strategies in the California Central Chapter's area. They will mobilize staff members and manage numerous volunteers to produce the Chapter's Oxnard and Thousand Oaks Walks, RivALZ Ventura County, one constituent event, The Longest Day (TLD) and other fundraising and outreach initiatives according to our timelines and best practices. This position is based in our Ventura County Regional Office and reports to the Vice President of Development & Communications
Areas of Responsibility:
- Plans and executes the Oxnard and Thousand Oaks Walk to End Alzheimer's to include team captain/walker recruitment and retention; sponsor cultivation and solicitation; promotion and marketing activities; and all event logistics
- Plans and executes the RivALZ Ventura County event, as well as coordinating The Longest Day
- With the Vice President of Development, establishes annual event fundraising goals and plans for the achievement of those goals
- Recruit, train and manage volunteers to support all aspects of assigned fundraising events
- Schedule planning meetings including preparing agendas, meeting minutes and holding volunteers accountable of all assigned fundraising events
- Use various contact means (phone, email, in person, social media) to promote the Walks and other events
- Work with staff and volunteers to identify and cultivate new sources of funding and in-kind contributions from businesses, foundations and community organizations
- Builds understanding for the Alzheimer's Association; its research, programs and services in all communications with current and potential and current volunteers and donors
- Identifies, recruits, trains and manages high impact volunteers who will assist the organization in increasing concern and awareness as well as growing revenue
- Prepares reports and provides information as requested and required. Monitor goals and budget for each event
- Provides support to overall fundraising operations of the Ventura community including customer service to constituents; database mining and management; donor/sponsor/advocate relations and communications; management of vendor relations; etc.
- Serves as chapter liaison by participating in community events throughout Ventura County and fielding questions and requests from the public
Educational Background:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree
Skills/Experience:
- 5+ years professional experience preferred in marketing, fundraising, sales, non-profit management, special events or related field
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to ask for donations, sponsorships and team participation
- Prior experience with constituent relationship manager software (i.e. Convio Luminate, Blackbaud, etc.) preferred
- Demonstrated ability to form and develop corporate relationships and partnerships
- Demonstrated experience in networking with collaborative agencies and providers
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, set priorities, delegate and meet deadlines with minimal supervision when faced with competing demands
- Detail oriented, adaptable, organized and able to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks
- Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of large events preferred
- Prior experience working with volunteer groups
- Outgoing, positive, engaging and enthusiastic
- Strong customer service focus to deal with a variety of personalities in a positive manner
- Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion
- Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google+ required
- Bilingual a plus
- Must possess valid driver's license, access to a reliable personal vehicle, and proof of valid insurance
- Ability to travel throughout Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties to perform and participate in tasks as assigned
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends; with occasional overnights
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
