Vice President

The Vice President – US/Canada provides strategic leadership and managerial oversight to HFHI's US/Canada staff in servicing and enhancing the HFH US and Canada affiliate network in keeping with best practices and HFHI's mission, principles, values and policies. Sponsors and leads transformational initiatives within HFHI and the US/Canada affiliate network. Engages and collaborate successfully with the broader affiliate community including the US Council and HFHI’s International Board of Directors, builds consensus on the long-term vision, policies, accountability and structure.

For nearly two years, we have been working closely with staff, external business consultants and affiliate leaders in a focused effort to assess our operating and fundraising structures to determine where greater alignment and opportunity may exist. In this context, the opportunity is not only to garner greater functional efficiency and increase funding for Habitat’s mission, but to also operate more seamlessly and collaboratively across our diverse ministry. Changes in the U.S. philanthropic landscape have informed our efforts. Leaders from the U.S. affiliate community have driven the conversation, with Habitat for Humanity International facilitating the process and planning implementation. 

In this role, you will lead an iterative, multi-year transformation process for the U.S. and Canada. We are creating new services and positions within our organization to reshape our relationship with U.S. affiliates and improve the level of service and support they can expect and must receive from us. Our goal is to provide the highest value to Habitat’s mission and the best stewardship of our donors’ investment.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Define and execute a US/Canada strategy aligned with the HFHI's Global Strategy, leading decisions that align with long-term trends and external context for affordable housing and community development.
  • Hire, motivate, and retain talented individuals who are recognized as top performers in their field and bring credibility and effectiveness to the ministry. This includes a viable succession planning for senior-level staff and a process of development and advancement throughout the US/Canada organization.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for Habitat's work and affordable housing with the US/Canada affiliate network and the US/Canada public.
  • Provide oversight to grow the long-term financial viability of the US/Canada organization by executing an ambitious funding model that pursues numerous sources of income (giving, revenue and federation fees).
  • Cultivate and provide oversight for HFH US/Canada's donors, including securing and implementing key partnerships.
  • Embrace, improve and live out the Christ-centered vision, mission and values of HFH.
Educational Background: 
Master level degree in a related field or Bachelor's degree with equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 10 years of senior leadership/general manager positions in large organization. ($200M annual cash flow)
  • Possess significant professional experience leading and growing large organizations that have a national footprint, complex operations, and unique funding models.
  • Possess knowledge and experience of leading transformative organizational change.
  • Collaborative and pro-active management style.
  • Strong conflict management skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prior experience in addressing poverty and a commitment to the economically disadvantaged.
  • Proven track record in recruiting and developing experienced staff.
  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills. Strength in promoting the organization in personal, small group, and larger public speaking.
  • Experience with affordable housing, community development, housing policy and/or housing finance.
