SVP International Business

The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for an SVP, International Business based out of our National Center office with remote opportunities in the U.S. and International . Must have access to a major airport. This individual will be responsible for developing and directing the strategic vision and providing leadership for AHA’s international business operations, presently with more than 1000 training centers in more than 115 countries. Working with the Chief, Mission Aligned Businesses, other senior AHA leaders and volunteers, the SVP, International will develop sales and marketing strategies to achieve international revenue goals, further global advocacy initiatives and global science and health strategies in support of the AHA’s overall mission. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the SVP, International participates in AHA’s corporate strategic planning and execution. This individual will also staff the AHA’s International Committee, a standing committee of the Board of Directors.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Accountable for overall leadership and strategic direction of AHA’s international business which includes marketing, product development, distribution and material sales, global advocacy initiatives and global science programs. Leads efforts to achieve current international annual revenue goal of $25 million and international training goal of 2 million trained. Includes oversight of approximately 50 full time direct/indirect staff dedicated to international work.
  • Responsible for leading and motivating a multifunctional, multilingual, multicultural team to foster morale, promote engagement and build staff competencies and capabilities. Staff locations are based domestically and internationally.
  • Works with the AHA International Committee of the Board of Directors and AHA senior leaders to provide insight into existing initiatives. Engages in long-range planning and evaluates and advises on the impact of new international programs and strategies.
  • Will work closely with AHA peer leaders across departments to ensure collaboration, communications and success in all efforts to deliver on mission related initiatives to the International community.
  • Collaborates and establishes business relationships and partnerships with various international organizations to form alliances to broaden AHA’s influence on improving health and saving lives.
  • Oversees an operating budget of $9 million dollars.
  • Create or improve, implement, and enforce systems that enhance the overall operation and effectiveness of international work teams.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Twelve (12 ) to sixteen (16) years of Sr. Management work related experience
  • More than fifteen (15) years of executive-level professional experience involving strategic leadership, sales, marketing and program delivery
  • Demonstrated success leading international operations including revenue generation, marketing and sales management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively
  • A strong record of accomplishment in engaging employees, motivating teams and developing talent
  • Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding financial and/other related goals
  • Proven ability to work with and effectively communicate across a wide variety of organizations and individuals from different cultures and backgrounds
  • Multi-million P/L management
  • Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems/training program
  • Requires 40% travel local and internationally with overnight stay
