The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a State Regulatory Advisor in our Advocacy office located in Washington DC (Remote/Home Based is acceptable) .

The State Regulatory Advisor is responsible for researching, engaging, and providing guidance for regulatory work at the state level across the country in areas such as systems of care, access to care, hospital certification, prevention, and emergency response. You will also be responsible for monitoring relevant state regulatory issues that should be brought to the attention of AHA advocacy staff. Additional responsibilities include developing and providing comments, responses or recommendations to regulatory agencies including model regulatory language, situational awareness and guidance. May also be responsible for consulting with leading experts to develop policy positions and maintain relevant internal and external partnerships (relevant state agencies, coalitions, etc.).

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop comments and responses to regulatory agencies, provide model regulatory language, and prepare documents to provide situational awareness and guidance.
  • Research and monitor relevant state regulatory issues in areas such as access to care, medical insurance premium and reimbursement regulations, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS) regulatory changes. Develop reports and summaries to educate staff and volunteers on new or in process regulations.
  • Collaborate with leading experts in regulatory topic to identify and recommend appropriate AHA action. May also develop policy positions and will maintain relevant internal and external partnerships.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with federal regulatory affairs team to prioritize state and regulatory issues across the AHA’s advocacy enterprise.
Educational Background: 
Advanced Degree required (Masters of Public Health, Public Policy, Healthcare Administration or related area).
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience working with, responding to, complying with, or writing medical industry regulations including advanced work with CMS regulatory issues.
  • Advanced technical writing for regulations, policies, public response
  • Experience coordinating regulatory efforts at the state level, especially with CMS related agencies
  • Ability to build relationships with government agency representatives, state regulators, etc.

Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:

  • Experience developing and writing public policy statements.
