Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a Senior Specialist - US Affiliate Policy. HFHI staff and affiliates are seeking change, expressing the desire for a different and more coordinated approach to HFHI’s work with the affiliate network. HFHI recognizes a need—and has heard demand for—clearer and higher operating and performance expectations for affiliates. These adjusted expectations would need to be accompanied with clear consequences and timelines for non-compliance. In order to implement clear and higher expectations, HFHI intends to expand the Operational Excellence team so that there is more capacity to do this work. This will enable HFHI to move more quickly and effectively in supporting at-risk affiliates and monitoring compliance.
This position will be charged with shepherding policy proposals through US Council, including development of certain new policies. Policies includes new minimum production standards, revised ReStore policy, interest policy and additional policy changes that are critical to the ongoing health and effectiveness of the affiliate network.
- Draw on understanding of the affiliate network and HFHI to create a plan for developing and shepherding the highest-priority policy proposals through US Council
- Create avenues for input from affiliates and SSOs beyond the US Council structure
- Facilitate conversations and decision-making process; manage conflicts as needed
- Develop implementation plans for rolling out new US Council policies associated with minimum production and other standards
- 4-5 years of related work experience
- Experience with Habitat for Humanity and/or other federated nonprofit organizations
- Knowledge of/experience with policy creation process in Habitat for Humanity or other nonprofit
- Experience creating and implementing processes for bringing diverse groups to consensus
- Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Travel: 20-25%
- Strong project management skills; can coordinate between many people across departments and levels
- Strong communicator and able to adapt communication to the audience
- Skilled in delivering challenging messages to senior leaders*Ability to manage and prioritize multiple and diverse projects while working with minimal supervision
- Grasps pending policy issues and their impact on US affiliates and operations
