Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a Senior Specialist, Program Design.
As a leader against poverty housing and good steward to donors, HFHI seeks to enhance program impact throughout throughout the US Operating model by maximizing effectiveness and efficiency. Within Habitat’s operational model, it is imperative that we are able to account for and incentivize programming throughout local Habitat entities when HFHI is the grantor. In addition, it is necessary to build the expertise and establish a consistent process for program design to ensure HFHI as a grantee delivers on the donor’s expectations for program delivery and moves forward in achieving our mission.

Areas of Responsibility: 

This position will establish HFHI’s U.S. approach for grant design, taking into account HFHI’s role as a grantor to Habitat entities and seeking to enhance HFHI’s position as a grantee to grant (corporate and foundation) funded programs. The role will focus on executing the resulting framework in collaboration with the relevant program teams (including Disaster Response and Strategic Planning) for program development to successfully deliver on objectives and commitment to learning. 

  • Create the framework and path forward for HFHI’s future with program design for grant management
  • Lead the program development in line with select program teams for grants HFHI receives, including those for disaster recovery efforts
  • Facilitate the baseline assessments necessary, including research, to assist select teams in designing Habitat grantor funds. 
  • Coordinate with resource development staff to ensure program design protocols and processes will meet and/or exceed donor expectations
  • Coordinate with HFHI US office staff to ensure processes and procedures are in place for execution of grant programs designed.
  • Establish and monitor metrics to foster continuous improvement and operating with excellence 
  • Ensure grantor/grantee best practices are incorporated
  • Engage with Collaborative Operating Model Executive Task Force and staff to realize the intent of the grants management program
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-5 years related work experience in grant management and/or program design
  • Experience in program development and grant management
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and a general comfort level working with technology systems (SharePoint, webpage design and online meeting software, etc.)
  • Travel: 30%
  • Proven expertise and success in program design and grant management
  • Ability to work cross-functionally
  • Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of the Habitat for Humanity mission and possess outstanding people skills. 
  • Excellent verbal & written communication

Preferred: 

  • Formal training and/or experience in disaster recovery efforts
  • Knowledge of Habitat for Humanity’s work
