Risk Control Specialist - Construction

The Risk Control Specialist - Construction is responsible for oversight of Habitat for Humanity (HFHI) Construction Safety Policies and Standards and Risk Management, and collaborating with US affiliates, HFHI, and their insurance carriers and/or brokers in the implementation of Safety/Loss Control processes and procedures. The specialist will serve as the quality assurance analyst (QA) for all HFHI Construction Safety Training programs and initiatives. In addition to providing construction safety Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to US affiliates, this specialist is responsible for providing SME support to all HFHI US Office departments and programs, including (HFHI) “Build” events and disaster response that occur in the United States.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Conduct periodic Zero Accident Recommendations (ZAR) visits with U.S. Affiliates and/or insurance carriers and brokers
  • Lead the quality assurance monitoring and review of all HFHI Construction Safety training programs and initiatives
  • Recommend revisions and refinements to current Habitat Construction Safety Policies and Standards for the review of US Council
  • Maintain a record of all upcoming changes/adoptions to OSHA regulations and communicate those with U.S. affiliates and HFHI
  • Collaborate with the Habitat insurance carrier and broker to develop and implement safety/loss control procedures, protocols, plans, tools, templates, trainings, and other applicable resources for U.S. affiliates
  • Lead Affiliate-inspired construction safety solutions that reduce overall loss from construction activity
  • Facilitate information sharing and communication among HFHI, State Support Organizations (SSO's) and Affiliates
  • Develop relevant off the shelf resources that can be immediately adopted and used by US Affiliates
  • Coordinate with HFHI’s Learning & Organizational Development department to provide learning opportunities for US Affiliates on Construction Safety/Loss Control related topics
  • Monitor and enforce US Affiliate adherence to HFHI Construction Quality & Safety Standards
  • Consult with SSOs, Affiliates and HFHI’s Construction Technologies Department as well as Building Industry leaders, to identify and develop relationships with partner organizations that could support the work of HFHI, SSO’s and Affiliates
  • Coordinate with the HFHI Legal department and provide periodic reporting and information sharing as needed
  • Develop a Safety Culture that resonates across HFHI, its affiliates and partners
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor
Educational Background: 
B.S. or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum OSHA #30 Certificate
  • Minimum five years of experience in general construction, construction safety, and or occupational health.
  • Must have worked or volunteered in the Habitat for Humanity community, non-profit or similar industry for minimum of 3 years
  • Must have knowledge of safety and health standards, rules, regulations - Working knowledge of safe work practices, accident investigation techniques, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), insurance audits, workers compensation, project health surveys, Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA), site emergency evacuation and first aid plans
  • Must exhibit strength and appropriate demeanor for decision-making during crisis and conflict
  • Must have experience with training facilitation and presentation
  • Must have excellent presentation, writing and verbal communication skills
  • Must be computer literate
  • Valid driver's license

PREFERRED

  • OSHA #500 and #510 Certification
  • Organized, strategic thinker who is attentive to detail and can collaborate effectively
  • Demonstrate capability to design and ability to deliver high quality projects on time, and within budget
  • Demonstrate ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
