The American Heart Association has a great opportunity for a Principal Gifts Writer, Mission Advancement based out of our National Center office. This position can be remote but must be located near a major airport. This individual will be responsible for developing creative, meaningful and highly personalized communications for solicitation and stewardship of Principal Gift donors (donations of more than $1 million). Responsible for writing and editing communications that largely impact Principal Gift Donors. Also responsible for developing, writing and editing customized gift solicitation proposals, correspondence, acknowledgements, impact reports, and other donor communications materials. Other responsibilities include:
- Works independently to create principal gift proposals
- Conducts research and liaises with/ interviews staff to compose appropriate and effective copy for donor proposal and stewardship materials, from brief letters to long form proposals
- Reviews and edits written materials to ensure quality and consistency with established organizational messages and branding.
- Contributes to overall strategies for principal donor cultivation and stewardship
- Brings creative, critical, and analytical approach to planning sessions with colleagues Conceptualizes, writes copy for, and independently designs various communications pieces for donors
- Composes correspondence for the National Executive Lead of Principal Gifts, and Mission Advancement Senior Leadership, as well as draft copy for other leadership as directed by the National Vice President of Individual Giving Collaborates with colleagues across Mission Advancement in major stewardship projects across donor types at the principal gift level
- Coordinates stewardship work with the Grants Administration team, particularly large reports going to principal gift donors
- Manages select major reporting projects, including annual principal donor reports Completes special projects as part of the Principal Gifts team
- Adapts easily to shifting priorities and unexpected deadlines. Performs other duties as requested and special projects at the request of the Sr. Leadership team
- At least five (5) years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism or other non-profit related field
- At least five (5) years of experience related writing or proposal writing and managing the proposal development life cycle
- Strong verbal and excellent business writing communications skills, including strong presentation skills
- Superior attention to detail; outstanding organization and prioritization skills
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
- Flexibility in adapting to deadlines, changing schedules, priorities and unpredictable events
- Ability to travel up to 40% local and overnight stay
