The Director, Major Donor Funding Opportunities leads the design and implementation of LLS’s national funding opportunities strategy for principal and major donors, enabling the achievement of dynamic revenue growth targets. The Director develops the investment case for the LLS mission and creates sales products that equip national and field Donor Development teams to inspire and ask individual, foundation, and corporate donors to invest in LLS – continually and to capacity. The Director is the Donor Development team’s primary liaison to the Mission, Communications, and Marketing teams and ensures Donor Development funding opportunities leverage, optimize, and monetize existing assets.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop the investment case for LLS and its various initiatives, leveraging the full scope of LLS’s asset base of impact and influence.
- Craft the national major donor sales messaging strategy, drawing on expert-level knowledge of LLS mission, initiatives, metrics, scientific context, and communications strategy.
- Develop and implement the national strategy and business plan for funding opportunities.
- Conceptualize, design, and create turnkey sales products that are appealing to major donors, as well as scalable and sustainable from an operational perspective.
- Conceptualize, design, and create custom funding opportunities for principal gifts donors, aligning funder interests with LLS’s strategic priorities.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to uncover, define, and target principal and major gifts donors’/prospects’ philanthropic interests.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to identify fundable opportunities within LLS’s existing and strategically aligned investment areas, package them for external use, and bring the final products to market.
- Create cultivation and stewardship products in alignment with funding opportunities, including progress reports and newsletters.
- Direct training, education, and resourcing strategy to ensure national and field Donor Development teams are equipped to confidently and effectively interest, inspire, and ask major donors to invest in an LLS funding opportunity.
- Plan out-year funding opportunity growth strategies.
Experience Requirements:
- 9-10 years working in a writing-based fundraising, product development, or marketing role, preferably in a healthcare environment
- Experience in principal and/or major gifts fundraising
