The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Business Development Manager to manage the day-to-day business development and client management functions for the Heart-Check Certification Programs, focusing on product expansion and product mix, client retention, and business development efforts to meet the defined goals for the Programs.This can be remote position, but must live near a major airport

Primary responsibilities are to strategically seek and evaluate targeted areas for growth that align with the Heart-Check Certification Program goals and the American Heart Association strategic vision and to develop and execute plans to meet growth objectives. Key activities will encompass formulating and executing growth strategies, as approved by management, and devising and executing business development plans while executing strong collaboration with the Nutrition Operations team to define qualified leads and execute multi-year agreements resulting in program growth. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • With supervision of the Senior Business Development Manager, develop and implement annual strategic plan targeting consumer food manufacturers, private label manufacturers, and trade associations to achieve annual product growth goals for the Heart-Check Food and Recipe Certification Programs including:
  • Scheduling and conducting introductory calls as well as new client orientation meetings and presentations
  • Collaborating with appropriate internal teams and recruiting their participation in support of program goals
  • Tracking and maintaining accurate activity in ACT! (CRM) database
  • Maintaining working knowledge of FDA/USDA food labeling regulations and AHA positions on nutrition issues impacting program execution and expansion
  • Securing qualified leads/contacts from internal and external sources
  • Creating and maintaining timelines / action plans on assigned projects and adhering to deadlines
  • Managing day-to-day project tasks and decision making overseen by the Senior Business Development Manager
  • Collaborating with Nutrition Operations team to define and implement new acquisition strategies and existing client retention strategies tied to program goals and AHA strategic vision
  • Serving as a primary point of contact for several key, strategic clients and staying current on all client activity and interactions with the AHA
  • Maintaining a detailed understanding of all aspects of the Food and Recipe Certification Programs and leveraging such knowledge to make a positive impact on the Heart-Check Certification programs
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 2 years of business development experience
  • Effective client management experience, including being able to provide top-quality customer service to a high volume of clients and prospects.
  • Successful team collaboration experience
  • Ability to travel 30%

Preferred Experience:

  • Food industry/CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) experience preferred
  • Product development and/or brand management experience preferred
