Community Impact Director, Greater Phoenix

The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Community Impact Director in the Greater Phoenix area . Under broad supervision, the Director will collaborate with members of the Health Strategies team to drive the health impact goals in high risk communities by focusing in the areas of hypertension, nutrition, obesity and physical activity to build a culture of health. Serve as internal consultant to the region/territory on community and population health strategies and trends with a specialized focus on programs to drive health improvement across diverse communities.The Director must be Bi-lingual (Spanish/English)

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Effectively recruit, train and manage volunteers and strategic community alliances(e., faith-based insitutions, FQHCs, community centers, etc.)to support our efforts to create a sustainable culture of health in the Greater Phoenix area
  • With the Senior Director, develop an overall community action plan that includes engagement and positioning strategies, driving to organizational goals around healthy behavior, which includes blood pressure management, worksite wellness and other health impact initiatives and includes an engagement plan for key volunteers and strategic alliancesinstitutions and corporate relationships
  • Successfully build and implement a cross-functional hypertension and cholesterol control strategy (high blood pressure management, cholesterol and healthy behavior initiatives) in the market with strong integration of Health Strategies and Development.
  • In collaboration with the volunteer committees, develop a comprehensive multicultural marketing plan, driving to organizational goals and healthy living that includes social media and other marketing opportunities.
  • Effectively work and collaborate with other members of the Health Strategies Team, including advocacy staff, to develop strategies that will drive to the reduction of health disparities within the multicultural audience.
  • In collaboration with development staff partners and volunteers identify, cultivate and secure program funding, including sponsorship (cash and in-kind) for relevant campaigns
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3+ years progressive experience in public health, community health or equivalent
  • Bilingual (written and oral) Spanish/English
  • 2+ years proven ability to recruit, mobilize and manage volunteers, including C-suite level executives.
  • Effectively manage relationships with the ability to gain trust and demonstrate influence without authority.
  • Self-Starter who works well in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to drive towards results
  • Proven ability to apply marketing insights to develop appropriate strategies.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly in assigned territory and work nights and weekends as needed.

Preferred skills/experience we are looking for:

  • Demonstrated success in developing proposals and securing of sponsorships, major gifts and foundations funding.
  • Knowledge of corporate and community networks
  • Knowledge of AHA’s mission and programs
