Associate Director, Florida Recovery Programs

The Associate Director for the Hurricane Michael Recovery will lead the delivery of Save the Children's disaster recovery programs in Florida and serve as Save the Children's lead partnership representative in the state. The position will provide managerial, technical and operational leadership for recovery programs in Florida. While the majority of the position will be focused on scaling and delivering Hurricane Michael Recovery programs, the incumbent will also oversee the closeout of Hurricane Irma recovery programs by September 2019.

As a frontline representative of Save the Children, the position holder is required to ensure the safety and protection of children and families that the incumbent comes in contact with and to represent the agency values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaboration, Creativity and Integrity.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Lead the management and implementation of Child Care Recovery, Psychosocial Support and Protection and Preparedness Programs in Florida (60%)

  • Lead program strategy development and program implementation plans
  • Lead the process of building and maintaining relationships with schools, child care coalitions, and other state, local and institutional partners
  • Oversee budget, monitor awardee grant implementation
  • Complete and submit periodic program reporting
  • Oversee logistics for program trainings, monitoring and evaluation data collection and reporting; and track and report on program expenses.
  • Conduct regular site visits and program fidelity checks to ensure that Save the Children's programs, whether implemented directly or through partners, adhere to the highest technical standards.
  • Coordinate regular meetings with program technical teams to ensure program fidelity and quality
  • Order, assemble, and distribute additional program materials to partners as needed.

Coordination, Representation, Development and Story Telling (20%)

  • Help establish, maintain, and improve active and regular working relationships with government agencies, partner agencies (including donors and sub-grantees), and federal relief agencies.
  • Ensure that Save the Children's work is coordinated with efforts of other agencies, ensuring the specific needs of children are being addressed, and represent Save the Children in relevant coordination forums.
  • Ensure community acceptance and maintain engagement with local partners. Liaise with the relevant external stakeholders and manage community engagement initiatives.
  • Support fundraising, communications and reporting for recovery programs, including providing input into the development of high quality concept notes, proposals, reports and budgets; work with marketing and communications colleagues to effectively tell our story to different donor audiences

Team Management and Capacity Building (10%)

  • Ensure staff structure is in line with project requirements to ensure delivery of high quality programs within the project period.
  • Assess training needs within the team and develop a capacity building plan.
  • Support team members in establishing clear, measurable performance objectives and development plans.
  • Provide regular constructive feedback to direct reports, following Save the Children’s performance management procedures.

Support continuous improvement domestic emergency responses (10%)

  • Inform U.S. response and recovery protocol and strategies based on partnerships and field learnings.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years project management
  • 5+ years working with community organizations, preferably child-serving institutions and agencies
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated partner management experience and skills
  • Experience working with other NGOs, early education organizations and coordinating inter-agency activities, developing strategies and information products.
  • Experience of delivering training, presentations and other capacity building activities to varied audiences.
  • Patience, adaptability, flexibility, and ability to improvise and remain responsive and to communicate clearly and effectively under pressure.
  • Highly motivated self-starter and team player
  • Experience working with a wide variety of stakeholders including public, private, governmental and non-profit players.
  • Must be willing to travel 25-30%

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing emergency response and recovery programs
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Advanced education or training in mental health, social work or early childhood education fields or related field
  • A professional and resourceful style with the ability to work independently and as a team player, take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to lead, willingness to be led, and comfortable with situational leadership
  • Documented strength in meaningful relationship building, management and growth
  • Microsoft Office proficient (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
