Greater Syracuse YMCA
The YMCA of Greater Syracuse is seeking an experienced individual to join our Philanthropy team!
Under the direction of the Northwest Executive Director and the Director of Philanthropy, the Fund Development Associate strengthens the regional community by planning, managing, executing and evaluating the annual giving programs of the Northwest Family and North Area Family YMCA’s (percent of time allocated – 50%).
The Fund Development Associate also supports the Metro Development office and fundraising across the association (percent of time allocated – 50%) and will be responsible for creating strategies, tactics and communications to help grow major and planned gift donations to the YMCA of Greater Syracuse.
Annual Campaign
- Work with the Northwest and North branch leadership, branch staff, and the Metro Development team, to plan, schedule and manage branch activities and events related to the Annual Campaign for the Northwest Family and North Area Family YMCA’s. These activities include branch board and staff campaigns, campaign training, the Annual Campaign Kick-Off, campaigner volunteer recruitment and annual campaign volunteer recognition.
Annual Fundraising
- Manage annual fundraising for the Northwest and North branches.
- In addition to the Annual Campaign, support fundraising activities for the branches throughout the year. This includes cultivating major gifts, event/sponsorship, grant requests, direct mail and e-mail solicitations.
- Provide support when needed to other branch staff members soliciting funds.
Major Gifts
- Cultivate former and new Besse level gifts of $1,000 or more.
- Support the annual Besse donor event.
- Work with branch leadership to develop Financial Development and Major Gifts Committee for Northwest and North. Recruit and engage volunteers, support committee events and prepare monthly meeting notes.
Donor Management
- Ensure ongoing cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of donors personally or by appropriate individuals.
Donor Acquisition
- Help develop and manage the year-round financial development for the branch and assigned regions, including new donors, major gifts, annual campaign, capital campaign, endowment development, donor recognition and cultivation, prospect development and research, planned giving, expansion of member-donors for the branches and grant submittals.
Donor Communications and Stewardship
- Create thank you letters, newsletter content, and other donor stewardship materials.
- Take a lead role in collecting, developing and sharing personal stories for the YMCA’s impact on people’s lives so that donors, members and the public better understand how the Y delivers on its cause.
- Share regular communications and feature funding news through various media sources (Facebook pages, Website, local media, etc.).
Board Development
- Coach and help train board members to support the philanthropic activities of the branch.
- Engage board members in helping to identify and make connections with additional donor prospects with a focus on major gifts.
- Assist the Executive Director in the recruitment and development of volunteers for the branch board and related volunteer activities.
Fiscal Management
- Prepare reports as request.
Planned Giving
- Work in partnership with the CEO, Director of Philanthropy, board members, Executive Directors, staff and volunteers to fund programs and projects to advance the Y’s mission and cause.
- Develop and executive comprehensive plans for securing planned gifts.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, steward and report on planned gift donors/prospects. Deepen relationships with donors and grow major and planned gifts to the YMCA’s endowment fund.
- Help expand the YMCA’s Heritage Club to encourage engagement and giving.
- Collaborate and work directly with the YMCA’s Board of Trustees in addition to other YMCA staff and volunteers.
- Attend regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meetings and other YMCA meetings as needed
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or the Director of Philanthropy.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of financial development/fundraising experience, including annual, major and planned gifts experience.
- CFRE preferred.
- Results-oriented team player.
- Proven fundraising track record of securing planned and major gifts.
- Detailed and in-depth knowledge of planned giving and its complexities.
- Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with staff, board members, and internal and external donors.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and be detail-oriented.
- Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Donor management software knowledge and experience.
- Ability to use discretion when handling and communicating sensitive information and data.
- Complies with all applicable compliance and safety regulations and directives.
- Ability to travel locally, including to sites that may not be ADA compliant.
- May require some evening or weekend hours for meetings and events.
