The Development & Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking a intern for its Scandinavia team in the Stockholm office. Ideally, the candidate will be available starting in mid-January 2019 until early June 2019.
Students are often able to arrange academic credit, as HRW internships often offer direct exposure to the workings of an international human rights organisation, close supervision by HRW staff, interaction with other Stockholm based and international organisations and opportunities to attend lectures, trainings and special events relating to human rights. Students should check with their individual academic institutions for requirements.
Areas of Responsibility:
- The intern will focus on HRW’s development and outreach projects in Stockholm and Oslo.
- The intern will learn and take part in our advocacy, media, fundraising, and outreach events.
- The intern will be trained on how to conduct human rights advocacy, promote HRW policy, conduct targeted outreach, draft correspondence, plan events, and conduct general and prospect research.
Skills/Experience:
- The successful applicant should be detail-oriented, well organized, reliable, and self-motivated with good time management and prioritisation skills.
- Applicants should have a strong demonstrated interest in international human rights and fundraising. Excellent written and oral communication skills in Swedish and English are essential.
- Internet research skills and familiarity with MS Office programs, such as Word and Excel, are required.
- Database experience and familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or other databases are preferred.
- The applicant should have completed at least three years of university studies or equivalent.
