We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Vice President (SVP), Health Strategies. The SVP may be located in any location in the Midwest Affiliate with reasonable access to a major airport.
Areas of Responsibility:
We are seeking a change manager to drive the strategy and execution of health impact goals for our eleven-state Midwest Affiliate.
The SVP will provide coaching and supervision to affiliate-level Vice Presidents who oversee specific health strategy business areas, including community health, multicultural initiatives, communications and marketing, and healthcare quality improvement. The SVP will develop and own strategic and key relationships with health systems, organizations, and volunteers.
- Devise, cast, and implement the vision and direction for the Midwest Affiliate's health impact efforts, with a focus on both rural and urban areas.
- Serve as a member of the Midwest Affiliate’s Senior Management Team and work collaboratively with other team members to promote integration across the affiliate. This includes serving as the lead adviser to team members regarding health impact efforts.
- Act as a liaison for the Midwest Affiliate to national health impact staff, working closely with national staff to ensure consistent field implementation of strategic plan priorities and performance measures.
- Guide and direct assigned staff to reach goals.
- Serve as staff health lead for the affiliate board of directors, working closely with the affiliate board president to ensure the board is appropriately educated and engaged around priority health initiatives.
- Directly execute appropriate health impact efforts.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s or some college plus experience. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in health education, business administration, business/marketing, or social science preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- 7+ years of related experience in health, advocacy, and/or communications functional areas at a voluntary health/non-profit or related organization. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position’s educational requirement.
- 5+ years of experience in a management capacity. This experience may occur within the 7-year related experience requirement. Experience gained through direct internal work on AHA projects/priorities may substitute for this requirement and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree. Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 ½ years experience equates to 1 full-time year of higher education.
- Strong understanding of social determinants of health, rural health, and community health evaluations.
- Willingness to assist with and/or lead tasks and projects outside of normal day-to-day responsibilities.
- Expertise in selecting, developing, managing, and inspiring staff and volunteers as well as influencing and leading without authority.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data.
- Knowledge and understanding of general fundraising and nonprofit finance, including restricted funding, principles.
- Must have at least intermediate knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2010 or higher used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge and skill with these programs is preferred. These skills are subject to testing.
- Ability to travel daily and overnight on a regular basis.
