Are you a development professional looking to support a dynamic team in a fast-paced, forward-thinking non-profit organization? The director of philanthropy 1 will spearhead the major gifts program for the Haselwood Family YMCA, assist with the management of the Annual Campaign for the branch, and serve as a critical member of the comprehensive campaign team.

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Philanthropy, and in partnership with the Regional Executive Director, branch leadership and dedicated volunteers, this position will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects, donors and major gift donors of $5,000 and above, with a goal of raising $350,000 annually from individuals, corporations and foundations to advance the mission and initiatives of the YMCA and ensure a quality member experience focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Financial Development and Philanthropy – Major Gifts:

  • Support association financial development plan and strategies, and advance a culture of philanthropy among staff and volunteers.
  • Manage a prospect and donor portfolio to attain specific annual goals.
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle -- Identifying probable donors, managing a portfolio of existing donors, developing communication and engagement strategies per their interests and ensure that each major donor has a clear strategy and timeline in the gift cycle. (Moves Management)
  • Personally solicit and steward major donors ($5K+), or facilitate solicitation and stewardship through face-to-face visits with board members, community volunteers and/or executive leadership.
  • Make at least 6-8 substantive contacts per month with an emphasis on quality personal visits. (e.g. significant moves that advance a relationship). Work collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development staff, and other leadership to cultivate and solicit donors for YMCA programs.

• Work collaboratively with association financial development team to manage Corporate Giving program specific to the branch, regionally and in partnership across association when appropriate.

Financial Development and Philanthropy – Campaigns:

  • Manage Annual Campaign for assigned branch or strategic initiative to successfully achieve goal.
  • Participate in branch capital campaigns.
  • Establish and maintain accurate campaign records: organizations, committee members, prospect evaluations, assignments, funds raised, percentage of goal and completed visits, campaign progress, etc.
  • Provide oversight of all major gifts prospect activity.
  • Working with Financial Development and Branch staff, prepare written materials, including relevant case statements, proposals, information bulletins and correspondences with major/leadership donors to inform them of the impact of their gift(s), and to keep them up-to-date about the YMCA.

Financial Development and Philanthropy – Stewardship:

  • Provide personalized stewardship of major donors and ensure they experience high-quality interactions that foster long-term engagement and investment.
  • Develop strong and compelling major gift proposals, acknowledgments, reports and other communications.
  • Work with leadership and branch staff to ensure that significant donors in assigned area have multi-year solicitation, cultivation and stewardship plans.
  • Lead and implement strategic donor cultivation and stewardship activities. Execute logistics, develop strategic event programming in consultation with leadership.

Financial Development and Philanthropy: Management and Administrative responsibilities

  • Maintain assigned donor records and moves management plan for major gifts and campaigns.
  • Support philanthropic efforts of branch Advisory Councils (volunteer leaders).
  • Manage all philanthropic efforts for the branch or strategic imitative, including annual, capital, and special events to achieve a cumulative goal $350,000+ annually.
  • Participate in development-related committees as assigned.
  • Participate in setting and implementing giving policies, guidelines, and reporting standards.
  • Attends meetings and conferences as program representative.
  • Assists with events, comprehensive campaign activities and other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Relevant Bachelor’s Degree or four years’ experience in fundraising, business, or related field.
Skills/Experience: 

This position should have a track record of leading staff and departments to achieve set goals.

  • Knowledge of YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties’ mission, values, and programs, preferred.
  • A working knowledge of the local communities, its leaders and trends preferred.
  • Experience as a frontline fundraiser with demonstrated success in personally cultivating, soliciting and securing gifts of $2,500+.
  • Computer literacy and a commitment to maintaining integrity of a central database.
  • Proven ability to work professionally, collegially and effectively with donors or other constituents, colleagues and the public.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel. Experience with Blackbaud, Raisers Edge is beneficial.

  • Occasionally may need to plan and participate in programming outdoors.

Salary: $55,935.00
