The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of HFHMM’s volunteer program. This includes volunteer recruitment, retention and recognition. The Volunteer Coordinator should expect to spend up to 50% of their time out of the office. The regular work week is Tuesday-Saturday, evenings and weekends as needed.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Department Management:

  • Record Retention including filing, maintaining current files and purging old records.
  • Data entry and maintenance
  • Field general inquiries via phone and e-mail regarding volunteer opportunities with HFHMM
  • Other duties as assigned Primary Duties:
  • Develop and implement a strategy for actively soliciting, engaging and managing new volunteers based on the expressed needs of the organization.
  • Conduct presentations and speaking engagements for potential and existing volunteers, representing Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland in a variety of settings.
  • Work with all departments to foster a consistent, professional volunteer experience across the affiliate.
  • Facilitate twice monthly Blueprints: New Volunteer Information Session
  • Manage all on site logistics related to the volunteer experience including but not limited to: volunteer welcome and sign in, lunch pick up, lunch and learn
  • Maintain volunteer database and registration system including construction scheduling (groups, individual and team leaders), ReStore volunteer schedule and special events.
  • Publish volunteer e-newsletter
  • Work with staff to develop volunteer job descriptions and advertisements and conduct volunteer entrance and exit interviews.
  • Solicit volunteer feedback through satisfaction surveys and evaluate operations with the goal to enhance volunteer experience.
  • Support staff as needed in basic volunteer management
  • Manage comprehensive volunteer recognition program including HFHMM’s annual volunteer recognition event, National Volunteer Week, World Habitat Day and National Days of Service.
  • Maintain adequate stock of volunteer photos’ covering all aspects of HFHMM’s work
  • Verify volunteer hours as needed
  • Provide fiscal year and calendar year volunteer reports
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of two years of experience recruiting, managing, and/or working with volunteers
  • Excellent organizational, planning and supervisory skills
  • Excellent verbal communications skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed. Access to a car is required to fill some of the duties of this position
  • Good at multitasking
  • Ability to work in as fast pace environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work with individuals of diverse races, faiths, income and skill levels
  • Ability to work well with volunteers
  • Able to work flexible days and hours
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, databases and social networking media
