The Senior Vice President of Development & Communications oversees and provides leadership to the financial development program to advance the Y mission and achieve the overall fund development goal of $885,000: $404,000 in annual campaign support; $443,500 in major events gross revenue; and $38,000 in foundation grants.

Our annual support campaign provides life-changing programs and services to vulnerable individuals and families in need of a helping hand, and we are seeking to achieve a 5 to 10% annual growth rate to meet the future needs of our community and change thousands of lives.

Responsibilities include planning, developing and coordinating annual, major gift and capital fundraising initiatives, as well as identifying and cultivating individuals for capital and major annual support gifts. Also includes donor stewardship, grant research and writing and all aspects of special events, along with directing marketing and communications, public relations and market research. Serves as a member of the Senior Executive Management Team and a resource to the CEO and volunteer leadership.

Areas of Responsibility: 

•    Oversees all aspects of Development & Communications programs by developing strategies that align with operational initiatives and fundraising opportunities. Includes the implementation of an integrated marketing plan including the establishment of an active digital, print, radio and press presence.
•    Gathers data on organization’s market and audiences to develop effective and measureable marketing and communications strategies such as market analysis, demographic research, community needs assessment, and member and donor surveys.
•    Works with Development Department team in creating comprehensive annual development strategy fundraising which includes annual, special events, grants and capital campaigns and solicits funds to meet these goals.
•    Works with the Development department in all aspects of the gift cycle: Initiate contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors, develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers, move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure, make solicitations when appropriate, maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors.
•    Seeks opportunities for partnerships and collaborations in support of advancing the Y mission to reach more members of the community and to promote the Y and its work among key stakeholders, including members, community leaders, elected officials, influencers and local media.
•    Develops relationships with media; along with CEO, serves as one of the organization’s spokespersons and develops and distributes news releases.
•    Assures Development staff have appropriate stewardship, gift accounting, and reporting functions in place to ensure that all donors receive appropriate and timely acknowledgements of their gifts.
•    Oversees the writing of all grants and funding proposals and other fundraising correspondence.
•    Works with the CEO, Senior Team, Board of Directors and Board of Trustees to plan, execute, and facilitate effective strategies.
•    Serves as a resource to the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees on all matters related to marketing and fundraising by making periodic reports on all matters related to fundraising, marketing, and development efforts.
•    Collaborates with the Foundation to develop and implement effective strategies for long-term growth of endowment funds, creating new streams of revenue for building improvements and programmatic support.
•    Manages a portfolio of major donor prospects and stewardship activities.
•    Hires, develops and provides leadership to Marketing and Development Department staff.
•    Serves as a resource for development and branch leadership staff, including identifying potential volunteer/donor connections. 
•    Plays a leadership role in setting and implementing overall Y policies, procedures and strategies as member of the senior management team.
•    Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills/Experience: 
  • A Bachelor's degree in related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of professional experience in the YMCA or another nonprofit.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce positive results in the areas of financial development, marketing and  communications, board and volunteer development, staff supervision and financial management.
