The Disaster Recovery Volunteer Manager will support Habitat for Humanity’s disaster recovery efforts in Highlands County, Florida. This position will provide daily oversight for volunteer recruitment and coordination, ensuring a continuous pipeline of volunteer support. This position will collaborate with the Disaster Recovery Manager, the affiliate’s Construction Manager, and the affiliate’s Resource Development Manager to identify and place volunteers in field work sites.

The Disaster Recovery Volunteer Manager is responsible for all aspects of the affiliate’s volunteer program. This includes the recruitment, retention, processing and coordination of all Habitat volunteers. This position works closely with the Habitat leadership team to ensure that all levels of volunteers have a positive, safe and productive experience, while working towards Highlands County Habitat for Humanity’s mission and purpose. The volunteer manager represents the affiliate to the public. This position will work closely with local government, FEMA, AmeriCorps, UMCOR, Team Rubicon, and Habitat for Humanity International

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Respond to all volunteer inquiries
  • Raise the profile of volunteerism in Highlands County
  • Develop and implement a strategy for actively soliciting, engaging, and maintaining new volunteers
  • Act as a liaison to other organizations who are sending volunteers
  • Schedule volunteers to meet the needs of both the home construction and repair program
  • Interview and place volunteers for specific needs
  • Coordinate the scheduling of volunteer groups
  • Coordinate housing and meals for volunteer groups
  • Maintain volunteer database and keep records of volunteer activities
  • Develop and implement formal and informal volunteer appreciation program
  • Prepare job descriptions for volunteer positions
  • Monitor volunteer satisfaction
  • Perform background checks and ensure volunteer paperwork is accurately maintained
  • Manage community service volunteers from local municipalities
  • Coordinate volunteers for booths, fairs, and other community outreach functions
  • Manage the AmeriCorps program and act as the Host Site Manager
  • Manage the RV Care-A-Vanner program and Collegiate Challenge Program
  • Develop partnerships with schools and institutions of higher education to streamline student access to service opportunities
  • Work directly with corporate volunteer groups traveling from outside of the area
  • Assists with the planning of groundbreaking ceremonies, home dedications, and fundraisers
  • Ensure volunteer safety regulations and policies are being met
  • Support and participate in Highlands County’s Long Term Recovery Group efforts
  • Monitor volunteer budget
Educational Background: 
Relevant bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3 years relevant experience with a non-profit organization
  • Dedication to the goals, mission, and ministry of Habitat for Humanity
  • Patience and ability to work effectively with volunteers, possess a positive and welcoming spirit at all times and be able to interact with diverse groups of people
  • Comfortable with public speaking opportunities and sharing the HCHFH mission and ministry with large and small groups of volunteers, potential volunteers and community members. A people-person with exceptional verbal, written, listening, and presentation skills
  • Ability to think strategically, both individually and as part of a team
  • Database management experience and the ability to maintain accurate records and prepare timely and meaningful reports
  • Familiarity with computer programs including databases, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Access and the Internet
  • Must have clean driving record and pass background check
  • Internal Interactions: Habitat Staff, Regular Habitat Volunteers, Board of Directors
  • Estimated Time Commitment: 40+ hours /week Typically Monday thru Friday 8:00-5:00. Some weekend and evening hours. Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodation is available.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds. Frequent exposure to various outdoor weather conditions
