The Senior Security Specialist, Risk Intelligence is a key member of the foundation's global security team, responsible for researching and analyzing country data to produce comprehensive geopolitical assessments for consumers regarding risk issues specific to the countries, regions, and cities where the foundation operates. Responsible for identifying opportunities to broaden the impact of risk intelligence across the foundation and to enhance and improve team strategies and processes. The Senior Security Specialist drives benchmarking with external networks and leads on special projects.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Researches and analyzes country data to produce and update comprehensive geopolitical assessments for consumers regarding risk issues specific to the countries, regions, and cities where the foundation operates. Assigns risk ratings in key geographies where foundation staff travel and work.
- Provides timely, thorough assessments of risks and threats to foundation activities globally in advance of and in response to an event that could potentially threaten the safety or health of foundation people, property, or programs.
- Monitors worldwide threats and changes in risk environment that would require an elevation or de-escalation of risk ratings.
- Actively participates in collaboration with colleagues across all teams in GS to ensure thorough, consistent evaluation of data and understanding of full range of operational implications of risk rating determinations. Collaborate with GS colleagues to craft security guidance for staff.
- Drives engagement with foundation program teams, participating in cross-foundation working groups, providing briefings on security issues, and gathering feedback and requirements to shape future analytic products. Leverages entrepreneurial spirit to help GS management find new consumers for risk intelligence.
- Maintains a network of key contacts and relationships with external entities to facilitate key partnerships and information sharing. Leverages network to benchmark on security assessments and gather additional information and perspectives on potential dangerous travel.
- Provides tailored, near-real time mission support to Security and Protective Operations, to include traveling when necessary in support of the work of the foundation’s global initiatives.
- Assists manager in driving feedback from frequent travelers, including FTE and contingent workforce, for risk-related travel information.
- In conjunction with Deputy Director, Risk Intelligence, evaluate and oversee contracts with external vendors to obtain key intelligence information feeds necessary to inform risk assessments.
- Continuously evaluate the web-based platforms and graphical presentations of GS risk assessments, proposing improvements as necessary.
- As directed by GS management, assist with providing security for high-profile foundation events, including by conducting venue and city risk assessments and traveling to support the event security team.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience:
- Open source investigation, research, and analytic training, to include training on intelligence analysis and investigations-specific methodologies, threat operations and intelligence collection and analysis courses, critical thinking courses, risk management certification, fraud, and executive education courses in risk management and analysis
- Strong research and analytic skills
- Specialized knowledge in strategic analysis, policy development, and/or program management
- Experience with big data analytics, intelligence collection, and/or investigations
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
- Prior use and/or proficiency with MS Office Suite, intelligence-specific IT systems, knowledge discovery tools and business intelligence platforms.
- Strong verbal/written communication, organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Ability to be discrete, calm under pressure, and work with confidential and sensitive information
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- A deep commitment to the overall mission of the foundation, its programs, and an approach consistent with the foundation’s guiding principles. Committed to delivering results against the mission and holds self to the highest ethical standards
- Master’s preferred or bachelor’s degree with 5 + years of experience with relevant experience in international relations, regional studies, security, or a related field is required.
- Strong preference for prior experience in a national intelligence agency in an analytic role.
