Save the Children  is conducting clinical research and evaluation. The Senior Research Manager will serve a pivotal role in implementing and managing this research. The Senior Research Manager provides overall program management and technical guidance for large multi-faceted projects or multiple projects at the same time. Along with the Senior Advisor, this position is responsible for ensuring our sustained global technical leadership role in clinical research and evaluation. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

This position is intended to provide clinical research management. The Senior Research Manager will assist or lead research activities generally associated with the conduct of clinical trials, exercising independent judgment and discretion on significant matters related to clinical trials research. Under supervision of the Senior Advisor, the Research Manager determines objectives and milestones, builds effective relationships within the team and with partners, and performs the following activities:

  • Manage day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of multiple or large-scale research studies and clinical trials and may delegate or coordinate duties with research staff.
  • Develop and manage project activity timelines, study budgets, and tracking documents for management of study, site progress, and logistics.
  • Design and manage research studies and clinical trials, including the development of protocols, informed consent forms, and data collection tools, synthesizing input from the study team.
  • Lead and supervise administrative or research staff. Provide and oversee appropriate training of research staff.
  • Manage communications with regulatory bodies and ethics review committees, including new study applications, adverse event reporting, and protocol deviations.
  • Coordinate study site initiation activities with investigators, and study team.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and training materials in collaboration with study team.
  • Monitor adherence to study protocols and procedures, and submit routine progress reports to relevant institutional review boards.
  • Monitor data flow from sites, and manage data collection activities proactively; identify and resolve data discrepancies.
  • Work closely with award manager on issues related to budget, grant compliance and financial issues.
  • Coordinate and document study communications, including conference calls, donor meetings, and investigator meetings.
  • Manage donor reporting activities.
  • Collaborate with public and private sector partners, including academic and research organizations, to facilitate implementation of project objectives.
  • Conduct data analysis and draft study reports and manuscripts in collaboration with the study team.
  • Conduct literature reviews to identify research and emerging data relevant to the project.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or relevant equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • You have a minimum of 5-7 years' experience in area of expertise
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent attention to detail.
  • Professional level of technical or managerial knowledge, skills, and experience to manage the operational activities of a unit or team, or provide the technical and management support related to various size programs, grants or projects.
  • Ability to provide input to the strategic and operational plans for clinical trials and other research projects. Accountable for achieving results and responsible for setting clear objectives and measures for self and others.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion on significant matters related to clinical research.
  • Experience in the design, development, and monitoring of international health programs.
  • Experience managing donor programming priorities and technical requirements, including grants, sub-grant agreements and technical assistance support.
  • Proficient with data analysis.
  • Self-motivated and highly flexible individual who is able to work independently and as a team with strong interpersonal skills, and who can manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively to solve problems and find effective and efficient ways to accomplish goals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to synthesize information.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with peers and managers. Relates well to all kinds of people.
  • International travel up to 30% time may be required.
