The Washington Mobilization Manager is responsible for developing advocacy infrastructure in target legislative districts by identifying, cultivating and organizing Save the Children Action Network’s supporters and volunteer leaders. In addition, he/she will also be responsible for developing key relationships with coalition partners, local elected officials and grasstops in the targeted districts to help with Save the Children Action Network’s high-priority policy action campaigns. Current SCAN campaigns are focused on maternal, newborn and child survival globally and early childhood education domestically. In partnership with the mobilization team the Manager will help assess Save the Children Action Network’s supporter base, determine key audiences and demographic segments to target, selecting strategies both online and offline to educate and engage targeted individuals and groups to meet our annual goals and deliverables. This position is virtual-office based position with a preference for candidates based in the Seattle area.
- Build and develop an advocacy structure and SCAN presence in key districts. This includes but is not limited to recruiting and maintaining: an expanded supporter base, activists, leader base in each targeted district; outreach to coalition partners; a grass tops/influential network, and others as may be necessary. Conduct face to face interactions with grass tops and leaders as needed in the districts. (30%)
- Recruit and build a leader model that supports outreach to elected officials through letters, phone calls, social media, and in-person meetings, letters to the editor, and blog posts. (20%)
- Work collaboratively with SCAN’s young leaders outreach to build an infrastructure on targeted campuses and support the outreach efforts of the high school Ambassadors (20%)
- Conduct trainings and provide ongoing support for volunteer leadership development. (15%)
- Promote SCAN’s brand and agenda through planning of events at the local level as well as working with leadership on the ground to be visible at high-profile events throughout the region with ongoing use of social media and other targeted communications strategies. (15%)
- A minimum of three to five years of experience in developing and executing on-the-ground issue advocacy campaigns, with tangible evidence-based results.
- At least one election cycle field experience, whether on a political campaign or working an issue-advocacy campaign preferred.
- Knowledge about developing and executing integrated online organizing, field based events, and grassroots recruitment for advocacy campaig
- Working understanding of legislative and electoral process.
- Ability to work well with coalitions and the staff and leadership of
- allied organizations
- Strong public speaking and training experience
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Team-player with excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Significant comfort level with social media and technology
- Highly professional, motivated, energetic, and well organized
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize a number of ongoing projects
- Ability to travel frequently to priority districts, and additional travel to meet campaign-specific needs when required
