Interim Communications Officer - Executive and Employee Communications

As a member of the Executive and Employee Communications (EEC) team, you will work to connect employees to the work and impact of the foundation, inspire trust in leadership and their vision for the foundation, leverage leadership voice in service of foundation reputation, and support foundation culture and the shared sense of employee identity.

Develop and implement executive and employee communications strategies that are aligned with the organization’s values and the overarching strategic priorities of the foundation. Responsible for owning and driving the creative, interpretive content developed to engage diverse audiences, primarily employees. This position liaises with Global Health, GMRI, our African offices, and several operations teams including CBOO, CFO and IT, while also supporting EEC rhythm of the business priorities each week.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Contributes to the development of the communications strategic plan, while creating and executing short term plans to achieve goals in coordination with program and operations team counterparts.
  • Plan for and engage in internal meetings to partner effectively with colleagues and executives.
  • Provide general communications support to advance goals, including risk mitigation, event planning, movement building, channel strategies, oversight of content and materials and engagement with functional teams.
  • Creates written and visual content that meets the style of the audience and adheres to the foundation messaging framework for channels including Catalyst, Ampersand, and more.
  • Responsible for high quality interactions and clear and consistent communications with internal partners across the foundation.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s or other advanced degree with 8+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrates understanding of various tools and channels of communications within and external to the organization.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including AP style.
  • Strong MS Office skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Contributes to efforts to simplify the message and provides ideas that align to the communications strategy.
  • Gathers and delivers data on identified audiences.
  • Demonstrates an interest in building and applying audience strategy.
  • Stays current in the evolving landscape of various channels and distribution approaches.
  • Understands cultural sensitivities and nuances.
  • Connects the team’s vision to the foundation’s mission and strategies.
  • Corporate communications, advocacy, journalism, or similar experience in a business, nonprofit, or agency setting.
