The Executive Director of the Aerospace Machinists Institute is the highest level position in the organization. The Executive Director reports directly to the President of the Board of Directors and, guided by the President’s vision and financial approvals of the Board of Directors, is responsible for developing and  executing the strategic plan for the organization, including communications, operations, financial management and reporting, and future fundraising. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Develop and present annual budgets for approval to the Board of Directors.
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies including plans for donations, grants (including oversight of grant administration and reporting), and other sources of public funding to ensure that the organization meets the public support test for status as a 501(c)(3) organization.
  • Develop and implement all training programs, including curriculum, staffing, advertising, financial management, and registration.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for cooperation and collaboration with private and public sector partners, including among others, aerospace companies and community and technical colleges, with respect to fundraising and training goals.
  • Determine the physical location needs for training and administration of the organization.
  • Oversee the organization’s communication structure and plan including all aspects of traditional, website and social media presence.
  • Manage and oversee the organization’s workforce.
  • Promote high-performance teamwork to assure timelines and quality of deliverables.
  • Create a culture and implement policies that promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Serve as the communication link between organization staff, the President of the Board of Directors, and IAM, District Lodge 751 and its constitutent organizations and membership.
  • Ensure that the organization is developing according to timelines, meeting targets and expectations, developing sources of income, utilizing resources appropriately and complying with all legal and regulatory mandates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President.
Skills/Experience: 

Qualifications For The Position

            Essential Qualifications

  • Five years of senior management experience.
  • Advanced degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Demonstrated success leading an organization or division to achieve strategic objectives and manage a budget.
  • Understanding of training programs, apprenticeship programs and curriculum development.
  • Outstanding communication, planning, motivational and interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiasm, engaging personality and a sense of humor.
  • Alignment with the goals and purposes of labor unions.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Existing reputation and contacts within the aerospace industry.
  • Existing reputation and contacts among community and technical colleges in the Puget Sound area.
  • Demonstrated successful management of a non-profit organization or division with an annual budget of $1-$5 million.
  • Fundraising experience, including identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gifts, grants and/or events.

Salary and Benefits

The starting salary for the position is $120,000 - $135,000.  Aerospace Machinists Institute also provides generous health and welfare benefits, retirement contributions into a savings plan, and generous leave.
