The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Alumni Regional Director oversees a regional Alumni engagement program and provides operational direction and oversight to Alumni Managers for ongoing program execution and staff development. The Alumni Regional Director integrates Alumni programs into WWP’s operational outcomes in alignment with the strategic plan, and ensures integration of WWP vision, mission, and culture among regional Alumni staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Oversee the WWP regional Alumni engagement program for an assigned region, e.g., Mid-Atlantic, North Central, West, South Central, or Southeast region, and provide operational direction to management-level staff to achieve Alumni program goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership to regional alumni leadership and teams for ongoing staff development. Coach, train, and develop the regional Alumni managers, including developing conflict resolutions skills and change management competencies.
  • Provide leadership direction to regional alumni managers to ensure goals, objectives, and KPIs are met, and the Alumni program strategic plan is tactically executed. Ensure consistent messaging and communication.
  • Provide leadership to regional alumni teams for ongoing program execution. Identify and develop methods to maintain and ensure optimal outcomes and programmatic execution opportunities. Ensure execution of Alumni programmatic goals are in alignment with WWP’s overall strategic plan.
  • Serve as a change management agent to address issues and resolve problems and create an environment where employees are encouraged to proactively address issues and solve problems.
  • Identify and develop operational methods for outreach to wounded warriors and family members.
  • Ensure the relevance and strategic alignment of WWP regional alumni events based upon the feedback received from warriors and families.
  • Track, review, evaluate, and report to leadership on progression of regional alumni team outcomes. Collect and report results and performance metrics for regional alumni events and activities.
  • Establish effective working relationships and work collaboratively with WWP leadership across the country, and with external resources, e.g. veterans integrated service network (VISN), regional community resources, and resources in medical treatment facilities (MTFs).
  • Speak to diverse audiences about all WWP programs and services. Develop community support for WWP. Present WWP vision and values to the community, communicating the benefits of WWP programs and services, and inspire them to become involved with and support the WWP vision.
  • Forecast, develop, and manage the regional alumni program budget.
  • Develop, implement, manage, and evaluate Alumni projects and contracts.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Equivalent combination of education, applicable military experience, training, and certification may be considered in lieu of degree.

Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and build effective working relationships. Demonstrated emotional intelligence. Ability to respond to sensitive matters with diplomacy and empathy.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport with veterans and their families.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Effectively complete assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated understanding of budget management and fiduciary oversight principles.

  • Ability and dedication to travel in support of WWP programs and services outreach.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Five years of relationship-building experience with military organizations, veterans’ associations, regional non-profit organizations, community partnerships, or similar targeted constituents.
  • Five years of staff management experience.
  • Three years of experience leading geographically dispersed teams.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • May require lifting/carrying items up to 50 pounds.
