Program Officer, Strategic Alliance Management U.S.

We seek a Program Officer (PO) to provide critical support as an integral team member to the administration and implementation of US-based strategic account management (SAM) activities. Primary responsibility will be to support U.S.-based life sciences industry engagement efforts that support foundation programs across our global health and global development divisions.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work with the Regional Director, SAM team and senior foundation management to define strategic priorities, essential operational imperatives and the developing of key messages in the engagement of the U.S. biopharma industry.
  • Develop and manage long-term company relationships between the foundation and bio-pharma partners. An emphasis will be placed upon relationship management with multi-national pharmaceutical companies related to their extensive R&D, manufacturing, supply and global distribution capabilities.
  • Plan, manage and implement a wide range of business support and analytical activities to support strategic business development activities (e.g. prospect and development of opportunities, market landscaping, grant management and external relationship management).
  • Consult with LSP colleagues and foundation program strategy teams to provide advice and guidance to our grantees and other partners who engage closely with, or may be dependent upon, biopharma industry partnerships to achieve desired impact.
  • Review letters of inquiry and grant proposals; provide clear, concise and insightful written analysis and recommendations for funding; including drafting and editing proposal summaries and progress reports.
Educational Background: 
MBA or other advanced degree in Life Sciences, Business, Economics, Engineering, etc. desired.

The Program Officer must have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for addressing inequities in global health coupled with an ability to develop and manage high-level multi-stakeholder relationships and alliance programs.

Additionally, you should have:

  • An understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, market dynamics, company organization, investment decision making and competitive strategies. A minimum of five plus years of pharmaceutical industry experience in strategy or business development and/or alliance management required.
  • Stakeholder abilities, including leveraging and working with an established network of senior professionals in the U.S. pharmaceutical industry, to create a common vision and visualize simple and effective but implementable solutions to complex problems.
  • Experience developing critical business support and analytical activities including those that support strategic planning, portfolio management, R&D, manufacturing/operations, mergers & acquisitions, alliance management and market landscaping.
  • Comfortable in a wide range of cultural, geographic and operational situations, demonstrating culturally sensitive behavior with a diverse range of people. Must possess excellent relationship management skills to create trusting and productive relationships. Specific experience with peer level industry counterparts to cultivate partnerships on their company’s behalf critical.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results and drive complex work to conclusion; including delivering results through others.
  • Excellent analytical, writing and verbal skills for communicating with a broad and diverse audience.
  • Intellectual quickness, curiosity, discipline, resourcefulness and resilience.
  • Interest in and/or willingness to master the issues and priorities within global health. Experience working in emerging markets or developing countries, such as Africa, preferred. 
  • Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
  • Ability to bring an entrepreneurial spirit, positive energy and a healthy sense of humor.
  • Demonstrated passion for the foundation’s values with a commitment to deliver results against the foundation’s mission.
