We seek a Geophysicist with expertise in the development and use of near-surface geophysical techniques for hydrological problems and interested in integrative research. Of particular interest are emerging applications in electrical and electromagnetic geophysics such as complex resistivity and magnetic resonance sounding.
To provide technical expertise to the project on the selection of sites, drilling location, design, construction, development and performance of boreholes.
Site investigations / Drilling Operations
- Conduct desk study and reconnaissance survey in beneficiary communities prior to drilling operations and support the development of communities profiles
- Carry out integrated geophysics (electromagnetic and resistivity survey) to select potential sites for drilling to advise the Drilling Coordinators on the success rate of drilling
- Provide technical support in the management of drilling operations
- Provide technical support in the design, development and construction of water facilities for groundwater.
- Provide technical support for pumping test and water quality
- Provide technical support in the installation of handpumps
- Provide technical support for all Alternative Water Supply Systems design and construction when needed
Data Analysis
- Provide technical support in the collation, analysis and presentation of geophysical field data for the project to maintain high success rate.
- Provide technical support to collate and analyze hydrogeologically drilling logs
- Provide technical support to collate and analyze pumping test data and water quality data
- Provide technical support to introduce innovative devices for data collection and analysis
Planning and Coordination
- Prepare the planning, coordinate and monitor the site investigations in consultation with the Field Operations Coordinator
- Provide technical support for the planning, coordination and monitoring of drilling operations
Reporting
- Assist in the writing and presentation of the operations monthly, quarterly, annual and other technical reports as required by the Project Manager.
- Submit the units hydrogeological monthly, quarterly and annual reports
- Submit detailed reports on the management of assets, materials, supplies and activities on the field- monthly, quarterly and annually.
Equipment and Accessories
- Ensure efficient handling of all geophysical field equipment and their accessories and make sure they are always in good condition.
- Ensure the efficient handling of all drilling equipment and their accessories are handled well.
- Ensure well maintained equipments and their accessories are in good condition.
Supervision
- Ensure that the field team are well protected and work under a safety environment adhering to all safety regulations
- Coordinate the development of work plans in managing field operations
- Coordinate and supervise drilling and field program design implementation, monitoring to ensure that they meet project objectives and standards
The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
- Technical Training qualifications required: Professional technical skill desired (certification)
- Experience: 5 years of experience in relevant field
- Other: Masters Degree in Geological Science, Geological Engineering, and Hydrogeology is preferred.
Working Environment / Conditions:
- Work environment: Office-based with frequent travel to the field
- Travel: 5% Domestic/international travel is required.
- On call: 5%
