Help people make their health a priority at the Santa Monica Family YMCA!

Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Director, health coaches interact with new and existing members to help them in achieving their health and well-being goals.  Health coaches assist members with proper and safe use of equipment and develop 8 Week Programs as requested.  Health coaches create a welcoming environment for all members of all backgrounds and abilities.  

 

2 Part-time positions are available, 25 hours per week, morning/evening, weekday and weekend shifts – schedules are based on the needs of the members and wellness center. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coaches members in support of their desired behavior change. 
  • Regularly checks on members’ progress in meeting personal and program goals.
  • Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living.
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Assist members in proper use of equipment and ensuring safety of members, including appropriate use of equipment, clothing and shoe attire.
  • Develops 8 Week Programs for members, as requested, and provides follow up on said programs. 
  • Conducts New Member Orientations as requested.
  • Monitor fitness rooms to maintain neat and orderly environment by ensuring equipment is returned to its proper location after use.  Cleaning equipment as needed. 
  • Monitor functionality of Fitness Center equipment and report equipment needing repair to Healthy Living Director. 
  • Attends all staff meetings.
  • Must have good communication skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Must be familiar with and prepared to use emergency procedures. 
  • Demonstrate and enforce the core values (Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility) to staff, YMCA members, program participants and the general public.
  • Know, follow and understand all guidelines and policies of the facility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to stand on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent amounts of sitting, standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending and lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
Skills/Experience: 
  • High school diploma; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience and/or education in the wellness field.
  • Physical ability to lead and interact in fitness activities and perform related physical fitness skills.
  • Possess and maintain current CPR, AED and First Aid Certification.
  • Complete child abuse prevention training and safety training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Full working knowledge of facility safety and emergency procedures.
