Save the Children’s Child Protection program in Puerto Rico includes community mobilization initiatives, psychological first aid, social-emotional wellbeing interventions, and psychosocial programs. Our child protection programming focuses on enhancing Puerto Rico’s ability to bounce back following shocks, like natural disasters, by strengthening community-based, local level, and commonwealth systems for addressing the psychosocial needs of children and their caregivers. The Child Protection coordinator will be responsible for program implementation and support to implementing partners. The position will report to the Child Protection Senior Specialist.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for implementation of interventions related to child protection and psychosocial support programs, including material distributions to communities and partners for CP intervention
  • Support training and capacity building of local partners and sub-grantee staff to implement child protection programming.
  • Provide technical guidance and trainings to community-based organizations and local partners receiving subgrants and gifts in kind.
  • Provide training to community groups, leaders, and volunteers with a specific emphasis on psychosocial support to ensure that children feel comfortable, safe, and respected.
  • Coordinate and collaborate closely with Community Resilience, Education, and Early Childhood Development teams to ensure holistic, integrated programming in targeted communities and municipalities.
  • Contribute to technical design of projects as requested by the program manager.
  • Prepare timely program reports for child protection activities and completed distributions.
  • Work closely with logistics on procurement planning needs for program implementation.
  • Conduct regular monitoring of local partners and sub-grantees on implementation of Save the Children funded programs to ensure fidelity checks and quality programs; prepare field visit plans and supervision checklists in advance of trips.
  • Complete data entry for trackers that are part of the Child Protection Monitoring, Evauation and Learning (MEAL) plan.
  • Working closely with MEAL to put in place accountability measures, ensuring that feedback from all relevant stakeholders is considered throughout the project cycle.
  • Assist MEAL team in evaluation of projects, data collecting, and adjusting programs based on monitoring and evaluation results.
  • Regularly review progress of projects against program objectives and indicators, and ensure relevant plans are in place to address under-achieved indicators.
  • Support the preparation of situation update reports on child protection issues in Puerto Rico to be included in internal and external reports and advocacy efforts.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor Degree in social work, psychology, or similar field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-4 years of relevant experience
  • High School or Technical/Vocational Degree
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects.
  • Excellent Spanish communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent personal organizational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Resource management, training, capacity building, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Willingness to work and travel to challenging and remote environment and requirements.
  • Strong people management skills/experience and proven ability to create an environment which encourages team-working and motivates a team across various geographical areas.
  • Ability to meet government and federal agencies requirements for working with children.
  • Good analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in conversational English, both written and verbal, is highly desired
