Senior Development Director, Research Roundtable

We have a great job opportunity for an experienced results-oriented fundraising and/or sales professional to join the American Heart Association team as a Senior Development Director responsible for the Research Roundtable campaign, which is focused on high level volunteers and donors in the life-science, venture capital, bio-tech and healthcare industries. The Senior Director, working with executive level volunteers and staff, manages and executes the campaign driving revenue through corporate cash sponsorship and individual giving to achieve a net revenue goal of $800,000.The position can be based in San Jose or Oakland.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops and implements a strategic year-round campaign plan to achieve the established goal utilizing AHA best practices
  • Identifies, recruits and manages executive level volunteers primarily in the venture capital, medical device and bio-tech industries
  • Maintains and grows current corporate sponsors through year-round cultivation
  • Secures new high-level corporate sponsorship through developing and implementing a strong prospect pipeline
  • Cultivates current and secures new individual philanthropic donors
  • Oversees event execution
  • Conducts active networking and outreach through 10+ face to face meetings on weekly basis with donors, volunteers and sponsors
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3+ years successful experience in fundraising, sales or marketing
  • Ability to recruit, train, and manage high level volunteers to accomplish established goals
  • Ability to thrive in a results-driven and collaborative environment with highly effective organization, multi-tasking, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Skill in making oral presentations to large and small audiences and ability to write clear and concise narratives
  • Ability and willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends as needed

  • Experience working with executives in the life science, healthcare or venture capital industries
  • Related nonprofit fundraising experience
  • Experience in closing high level corporate sponsorship
  • Knowledge of AHA’s mission and programs
