Reporting to the Director of Walk, Regional Walks, the Development Specialist provides key support in helping the chapter achieve recruitment and revenue goals for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, an annual signature fundraising and awareness building event of the Alzheimer’s Association as well as other special events. The Development Specialist works closely with all Special Event Managers and Program Assistants to provide exceptional service internally with our staff and volunteers and externally with our Walkers, team captains and donors. The Development Specialist will take the lead in supporting chapter walk staff with the administration and management of the online registration and fundraising system, Convio. This position works closely with Accounting, Finance and Donor Services to lead our internal Walk process (invoices, check requests, reconciliation etc.)

This a full-time position located in the San Jose, California office and reports to the Director of Walk. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Convio database management 

  • Develops and analyzes reports to inform fundraising and cultivation plans
  • Delivers enhanced Convio Training for new employees and general operational onboarding with support of Walk Leadership Team
  • Utilizes all aspects of Convio in relation to money processing, reconciliation, customer support and e-communication

Sponsorships 

  • Creates templates for various Sponsorship documents for use by Walk Managers
  • Develops, utilizes and monitors sponsorship tracking system and follows internal processes to manage payments and invoicing

 Fund Raising and Recruitment

  • Secure sponsorship and table sales for Chapter Relationship events
  • Researches and recruits leads for The Longest Day in conjunction with Constituent Events Manager
  • Consolidates orders of items pertaining to events
  • Responsible for operational oversight of the Chapter’s Walk donation processing in conjunction with processing center(s) and Donor Services team
  • Research and track matching gifts and sponsorship payments in partnership with Donor services team.

General Event Support 

  • Responsible for training volunteers to assist with in-house projects related to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s
  • Build and maintain master trackers, sponsorship and budget trackers for walk program
  • Provide in-house training and admin assistance as needed
  • Manage shared drives (public drive and Google drive) for all Walk related topics
  • Coordinate and provide follow-up for Walk Staff calls
  • Provide day of event support for Chapter walks as needed
  • Assist with planning Chapter Relationship events
  • Assist with auction catalog descriptions, organization and presentation of items. Oversee silent auction set-up and schedule on event day
  • Maintain up-to-date Board of Directors give-get report
  • Provide support for other development projects as needed

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree; Business, Marketing/Communications preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least two to four years’ experience peer-to-peer fundraising or similar roles
  • Volunteer development and management, public relations, donor cultivation and relations, corporate sponsor cultivation and relations
  • Must be proficient with MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, email, internet
  • Master level knowledge of Microsoft Excel/Office suite
  • Experience with Google Suite
  • Experience creating and managing CRM marketing and fundraising campaigns on platforms such as Convio, Blackbaud, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Team Approach or DonorPerfect​
  • Expertise in utilizing multiple databases
  • Expert organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Proven success prioritizing and managing competing projects, data sets, and varying details
  • Proven ability to maintain data security and confidentiality
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work with vendors such as graphic artists, printers, merchandise businesses, caterers, etc. to deliver special events collateral materials
  • Must possess basic accounting skills and principles
  • Ability to travel occasionally throughout the Chapter Area
  • Ability to lift items up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusiveness
