Constituent Events Manager - The Longest Day

The Constituent Events Manager will play a key leadership role in achieving budgetary and strategic goals as part of the Alzheimer’s Association Northern California and Northern Nevada Chapter’s strategic plan. As a member and leader on the comprehensive development team, he/she is responsible for the significant growth and development of the Chapter’s signature event, The Longest Day. This position will manage development and execution of local The Longest Day recruitment, retention and fundraising efforts and is accountable for the achievement of income performance targets through the effective leadership, engagement, empowerment, and mobilization of a volunteer committee. This includes recruiting, training, mentoring and managing high-level volunteer planning committee(s) to execute the event(s) in their respective communities.

The Longest Day/Constituent Events Manager is also responsible for revenue generation from other Constituent Events as per Chapter needs as well as 3rd party events. This position will collaboratively work with all members of the Chapter Development Team, local offices, Regional colleagues and our Home Office.

This is a full-time position, located in San Jose, California and reports to Chief Development Officer. The chapter office location of this position may be flexible within the chapter territory.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Actively promote The Longest Day to external and internal audiences.
  • Actively recruit volunteer leadership and volunteers to serve on The Longest Day Committee.
  • Engage, train and manage relationships with community-based leadership volunteers (either chapter wide or regionally based) to develop and execute a local recruitment, cultivation and retention plan for new and veteran Longest Day teams; Ensures on-going mission education for volunteer committee members.
  • Build lasting relationship with Top Participants and supporters.
  • Develop leads and participant/National Team prospect lists and engagement plans.
  • Implement best practices for leadership development, increased participation and event revenue growth; drives and encourages creativity and innovation at the community/chapter level.
  • Develops and demonstrates skills in community organization, relationship building, talent identification and leadership development.
  • Monitors activities to identify trends and best practices; measures impact of specific actions; identifies and addresses issues as they arise and adjusts plans as required.
  • Ensures inclusion of The Longest Day within Chapter promotional/communications channels including email, social media, e-News; public relations and local marketing efforts.
  • Tracks, monitors and provides appropriate support as needed for other constituent and third party events; ensures that Nationwide policies, procedures and guidelines are followed for all 3rd Party events.
  • Appropriately stewards and cultivates 3rd party event organizers to maximize their engagement and fundraising success.  
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree; Marketing or Communications preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 3-years’ experience in developing and executing holistic event fundraising strategies.
  • Minimum 3-years’ demonstrated experience with volunteer development and management, public relations, donor cultivation and relations, corporate sponsor cultivation and relations.
  • Demonstrated ability in handling multiple priorities, project management and meeting deadlines with strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Effective public speaker.
  • Experience in managing large numbers of volunteers at different levels of expertise.
  • Experience cultivating donor relationships.
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion.
  • Proven history of achieving revenue goals.
  • Knowledge of Team Approach, Convio Luminate and/or other databases preferred, Microsoft Suite and Google Suite: Mail, Calendar, Docs and Hangouts. (This position will need to pass Database Certification as required by the Home Office.)
  • Ability to make frequent trips within Chapter territory; ability to operate a motor vehicle; must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Sensitivity to working with older adults and ability to work compassionately with
  • persons with dementia or memory loss.
