Under the supervision of the Development Executive, the Development Director – Annual Campaign and Events manages the Annual Campaign, all association-wide fundraising events and advises branches in the development strategies as it relates to Annual Campaign as well as events. The Director of Development works with the Development Department and the Board of Director’s Development Committee to implement the Y’s Strategic Plan as it relates to Development Activities.
The Director of Development works closely with branch leadership and the Marketing and Communications Department to determine strategic direction and evaluate progress in the areas of case development, campaign development, philanthropic training, broadening the organization’s donor base and deepening relationships with existing donors.
The Director’s responsibilities include managing all aspects of annual campaign and event fundraising including budgeting, project management, campaign analysis, training, overseeing gift processing, and fund-a-need strategies. The Director will advise and partner with the Development Executive to develop and implement a stewardship and recognition plan to acquire new and cultivate current donors. The position will also be the point of reference and main support to branch personnel for the annual campaign and events. This position ensures excellence, coordination and consistency in the messages the Y delivers to its donors and the public.
- Plan, direct and lead the YMCA of San Francisco’s Annual Campaign at both an association and branch level to meet or exceed goals; create strategies, annual plans, objectives, budgets and analyses for the Annual Campaign; evaluate plans and strategies and makes adjustments as needed; lead and direct the Association Board and Staff annual campaign.
- In collaboration with Y branch leadership, direct, manage and execute Association-wide Annual Campaign, printed and online case materials; consult with branch leadership as they design and implement annual campaign strategies, focusing on relationship building, return on investment and method fidelity.
- Plan, direct and lead Direct Mail efforts.
- Plan, direct and lead association-wide fundraising events
- Consult on cause communications for print and electronic fundraising materials.
- Strategize and review work from the Marketing and Communications Department on collateral materials related to donor development, recruitment and retention (website, Facebook, Constant Contact, print media, Annual Report, etc.) as related to Association Philanthropy.
- Working with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Development Executive, engage the leadership of the Association in major gift fundraising through annual campaign and high-impact giving opportunities, devising custom strategies to maximize existing and emerging philanthropic connections.
- With the CDO and Development Executive, develops and implements policies and procedures to assure appropriate and accurate recognition programs, activities and events; develops and provides development trainings for leadership volunteers and YMCA staff.
- Consult and train branch personnel on the campaign planning and execution as needed.
- Manage and provide expertise regarding the best methods for gift processing and acknowledgment Association-wide.
- Establishes strategies, annual plans, objectives, budgets and analysis for all development activities related to the position.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.

- Experience in development, fundraising or equivalent is required.
- Practical experience with annual campaign fundraising, moves and relationship management, volunteer management, managing a budget, marketing and communications and donor data systems is preferred.
- The ideal candidate must have the ability to lead multiple long- and short-term projects simultaneously, meeting all related deadlines and have the ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate and manage their own work as well as problem-solving effectively and creatively.
- The candidate must also possess strong planning and analytical skills, and have the ability to communicate and work effectively and manage diverse staff, high-level volunteers, and vendors.
- The position requires the ability to work collaboratively and effectively to garner cooperation and requires high proficiency in computer skills and donor databases.
- 3-5 years related experience
- Experience with Planned Giving, Individual Giving, Donor Database Management required
Salary: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00
