Children's Program Manager

Under the supervision of the Riley Center Program Director, the Children's Program Manager oversees the coordination, implementation and program development of the Children's Program and services, as well as delivery of youth focused presentations and outreach to the community and supervision of the Children’s Program staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop, coordinate & provide structured services to children and their mothers, including:  individual counseling, play/educational activities, field trips, child care, case management and advocacy.
  • Responsible for coaching, discipline, scheduling, supervision and annual evaluation of staff within the Children’s Program.
  • Share responsibility of carrying the emergency residential cell phone with the other residential supervisors on a rotational schedule.
  • Provide program development for the Children’s Program, including but not limited to curriculum, group activities, outreach to other community programs, and Children’s Program at the Community Office.
  • Deliver presentations and attend meetings to represent the Riley Center, specifically youth focused, as needed.
  • Facilitate client group work as assigned, including:  children's support groups, mother’s support groups and parenting skills education to mothers.
  • Maintain and compile client records and service documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Oversee protocols for Children's Protective Services reporting on suspected child abuse, including notification, written responses and intervention.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings: Community Time, In-Services, Case Management and Team Management.
  • Represent the Riley Center in community activities and projects, specifically the Homeless Education Council and the Homeless Children's Network.           
  • Assist the Volunteer Coordinator in screening, training, scheduling and supervising volunteers and interns as needed for the children's program.
  • Ensure accuracy of hours in ADP weekly for children’s program staff and make changes as necessary.
  • Maintain children's program areas and supplies.
  • Upon hiring, complete the next domestic violence training offered by Riley Center.  Participate in appropriate on-going staff development training.  
  • Assist with other direct client services in emergency situations.
  • Participate in on-going cross training to perform duties in other departments of the agency as needed.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS in psychology or related field preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • BA/BS in psychology or related field preferred.   Work experience acceptable in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum one year of supervisory experience.
  • Experience and familiarity with a variety of creative arts and children’s play/educational activities.
  • Knowledge of issues of child abuse/neglect, children who have experienced domestic violence and child development.
  • Demonstrated skills in counseling, case management and client advocacy with children and families.
  • Familiarity with Harm Reduction philosophy and approach.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of domestic violence issues, especially in context to race, class, gender, and sexual identity.
  • Knowledge, experience, and comfort working with a diverse community, including LGBTQQ, youth, immigrant, low income communities, and communities of color.
  • Working knowledge of community resources.
  • Demonstrated commitment to open, direct, non-violent communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and make decisions under pressure.
  • Basic reporting skills including data entry, Excel and Word processing.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a small office.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients, volunteers and staff.
  • Commitment to the mission of St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary DOE. Kaiser fully paid for employee, voluntary dental and vision, 403b retirement plan.  Two weeks of vacation and ten days of sick pay per year.

Programs: 

The Riley Center serves victims of domestic violence by offering emergency services, case management, 24 hour crisis phone line and housing for up to 12 months.

 The Multi-Service Center is Northern California’s largest homeless shelter serving 400 men and women daily.  We provide two meals per day for clients residing in the shelter.  We also offer drop in services such as a place to sit during the day, Tom Waddell medical clinic, restrooms and showers.
