The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Physical Health & Wellness (PH&W) Manager leads a regional Physical Health and Wellness team, and provides budgetary development and oversight, and ensures alignment of program offerings with strategic goals. The PH&W manager effectively manages internal and external stakeholder relationships while maintaining a commitment to WWP’s mission.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage PH&W activities and regional staff, ensuring alignment of program offerings with strategic goals.
  • Develop and implement regional action plans in support of organizational needs, while identifying new programming opportunities.
  • Provide oversight for regional PH&W programming within the Salesforce and CVENT platforms, including tracking and reporting of regional staff key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Manage PH&W regional budget, ensuring responsible stewardship of financial resources.
  • Identify and implement strategies to maintain and develop relationships with warriors that promote increased participation in PH&W events and activities.
  • Facilitate professional development of regional staff through individual coaching, selection of continuing education opportunities, and assignment of special projects or workgroups.
  • Lead weekly regional team meetings via video conferencing. Conduct regular check-in meetings with individual PH&W Specialists.
  • Establish and maintain community relationships to build an ecosystem of PH&W support for warriors in the assigned region.
  • Assist with planning of yearly all-team meetings, regional team meetings, and various staff trainings.
  • Manage workgroups to identify improvements, evaluate specific program areas throughout the year, and implement new program offerings.
  • Lead special projects designed to improve programming, efficiencies, and increase overall impact.
  • Work with multiple WWP departments and other key stakeholders to deliver programming and services to warriors and their families.
  • Travel as needed to specific PH&W events to provide an onsite presence and ensure warrior participation and event success. Interact with warriors and serve as liaison with other WWP departments.
  • Maintain PH&W program staffing by reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership for hiring decisions.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, sports management, recreation management, or similar health science field.

  • Strong presentation skills. Confident communicator, with demonstrated ability to present information effectively to large audiences, small groups, and individuals. Skill and ease while speaking in public and serving as a representative for the organization.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in holistic and inclusive programming for nutrition, wellness, and fitness.
  • Demonstrated understanding of budget management and fiduciary oversight principles.
  • Ability to travel in support of WWP programs and services outreach.

  • Three years of experience working in the fitness industry, allied health profession, health management, wellness coaching, strength and conditioning, or personal/athletic training.
  • Two years of staff management experience.
  • Must be able to travel between 25% - 50% of the time including overnight and weekend travel.

Preferences

  • One year of experience working with and providing support to wounded service members dealing with health issues and invisible injuries.
  • One year of experience managing remote staff.
  • One year of experience with customer relationship management and event management systems, e.g., Salesforce, CVENT.
  • One year of experience managing projects or events.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Valid state-issued driver’s license required.
  • CPR-First Aid certification required.
  • Personal Training certification (ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA), Strength and Conditioning certification (CSCS), or other related fitness certification preferred.
  • Wellness coaching certification preferred..
