Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) Grants & Foundations Fundraising Specialist is responsible for identifying, researching, developing, and submitting proposals to individuals and foundations in support of WWP programs and services. The Grants Specialist will ensure proper stewardship of all grants and compliance with all stipulations and regulations, and will serve as primary account manager for a portfolio of grantors and foundations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Effectively articulate, verbally and in writing, WWP’s history, mission, vision and programs to potential funding sources
  • Respond to inbound requests, leads and contacts for RD Grants, analyzing opportunities for best return on time and resource investment towards team goals
  • Research, cultivate, and steward individual donors and foundations (various types)
  • Proactively target new grant opportunities for the organization
  • Determine and communicate solicitation requirements and deadlines for proposals with RD Grants team and colleagues, as needed
  • Serve as primary grants writer for prospects, as assigned, and for those with whom the Specialist is identified as primary account manager
  • Mentor coordinators in various Resource Development channels
  • Review proposals generated by the team for completeness and accuracy
  • Ensure proper grant administration and communicate compliance with grant requirements to donors, including management of grant follow-up and reporting process
  • Collaborate with members of RD team on cross-channel funding opportunities
  • Record all activities and account touches in CRM and other tracking tools to ensure continuity and donor satisfaction
  • Meet individual and team revenue requirement to fuel WWP programs and services
  • Other related duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required. Equivalent combination or education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to translate data and work with metrics to write meaningful grants on behalf of the organization
  • Creative thinker
  • In-depth knowledge of programs, services, certain metrics and regionalized needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively with personnel at all levels of various organizations
  • Ability to remain flexible and work within a collaborative and team oriented environment
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful, mature, and professional manner
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail, able to prioritize and ensure that deadlines are met
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional internet navigation and research skills
  • Proven ability to raise both money and gifts-in-kind

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years grant writing experience, including prospect research, proposal preparation and submission, and follow-up reporting required
