Context: The Development Coordinator develops and implements the Chapter fundraising programs, marketing strategy, and membership development.

Scope: The Development Coordinator works closely with chapter staff and leadership to develop and implement effective fundraising strategies and programs through grant proposals, individual solicitation, events coordination, and direct response solicitation techniques.  Manages the tracking of data and contributions. Coordinates website management, social media, and membership and fundraising email outreach.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  •  Coordinates and implements fundraising events and activities.
  •  Assists the ExCom and Chapter Director in the development of annual fundraising goals and objectives.
  •  Develops and carries out solicitation plans. Identifies fundraising trends; develops and cultivates new funding sources.
  •  Recruits and trains volunteers to lead Chapter Fundraising Team programs and activities.
  •  Manages the fundraising database and monitors the flow of funds, including the acknowledgment of gifts.
  •  Monitors and prepares reports of fundraising progress quarterly.
  •  Writes grant proposals to solicit funding from private and public foundations. Ensures Chapter compliance with Sierra Club fundraising policies and with relevant grant and foundation requirements.
  • Develops major donor and business partner programs that include building and fostering long-term relationships
  • Develops traditional and digital media marketing strategy including; membership and fundraising emails, text network, website maintenance, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
  • Performs miscellaneous administrative duties as required.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of organizations and volunteers.
  • 3-5 years fundraising experience.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with Quickbooks and CRM.
